Is this better than what I have?

Just got back from a local stereo shop and wanted to get opinions on this setup.

First of all its to replace my 2 RF 10's(that are real old) and Sony X-Plod(XM-1002HX) amp. Yeah I know, killer amp. I'm always embarassed to tell people what kind of amp I have.

I really am leaning towards a JL amp and subs. This is what the guy suggested.

2 JL 10w1v2

JL 250/1

Now I don't need a comp system here, but this new setup should sound better than what I have, right?

I'd like to stick with 10's so I can use the sealed Obcon box I already have. Don't feel like screwing with a new box.

for me if you have a decent bass set up (which you have. IMO almost any two 10" subs in a competent box qualifies as decent) then my 1rst priority would be upgrading the rest of the system. Sure it will probably sound better if not louder but you could probably achieve 75% of that improvement messing around with eq's/levels/enclosure. I guess it depends on how important bass is to you although brand and age isn't really a good reason to switch up unless you feel like it sucks now. Plus like dude above said 10w1's and 250/1 isn't that much of an upgrade short of walmart set up.

Depending on what current subs you have now.
They're Punch Audiophiles. I don't know much about them. I bought the whole setup a few years back. I'm sure they aren't high end RF.

i would lean towards a zapco 500.1 reference series (500 x 1 @ 2 ohms, 360 x 1 @ 4 ohms) . then upgrade to a different bass setup later. for now though, as long as you are wise about it, that amp wont kill anything.

OK, so how bout I go with a 500/1 and the w3's?

Decent? It's a little step up, but it wouldn't break the bank like w6s.

edit- I just remember that I probably should get my alternator fixed before I get a bigger amp. LOL

I found the pdf manual on the Fosgates. They were sold in 96! Told you they were old! But they still pound which is funny. It's just that when I start to turn them up they start to bottom out bigtime. So thats why I want a little more powerful system.

After I read the manual I finally found out what they can handle. Just a measly 150w rms.

If I add a 500/1 they probably won't last more than a day, right?

I take it you didn't catch the hint to go with the soundsplinter RL-i -- or something comperable... ?

RL-i and the Dayton RS subs happen to be the only subs I would think about getting in this price class at the current time... unless there is just something I don't know about... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif -- for a pair of ethr of these subs I would say get 500-1250 watts of amplification power... PG Xenon 600.1 or 1200.1 is a decent amp -- the JL 'Slash' is a very nice amp... can't go wrong with that ethr...
