Is this a bit much??

I just went into a local car audio shop that I have never visited before for some 4 gauge ring terminals. Me and the shop owner got to talking and I asked him if he did custom installs. He said yep and I told him about the fiberglass box I was thinking about he said "Sure, we can do it. Let's go take a look at your car." I pop the trunk and right off he said nice setup! We talked about the box and he quoted me a price of $1500!!!. He said it would take about 6 days at $300 a day!!!! It's a simple sealed box into the corner of my trunk, nothing fancy, nothing complicated, just a sealed sub box. Is this what shops are charging for stuff?

I'm thinking I can make a whole lot of practice boxes for $1500. Oh, and I forgot, he also told me that this shop did the Phoenig Gold car for CES a few years ago. For some reason I am doubting that, I'm not saying it's impossible, but why would PG come to Utah and have a po dunk shop here do the install??

yes. buy the materials for like 100 bux and do it yourself, if you mess up, u only spent 100, its better than 1500. lol

if your just wanting a sealed box, it shouldnt be hard, just read up on some fiberglass tutorials on here and other forums and you will get the basic idea of how to do it.

I was quoted to get my entire trunk molded to aquire 4 12's it would cost $1200 and take a week.

I would think 1500 bucks for a simple sealed setup like that would be to much. I know fiberglassing takes awhile to do and can be costly at a shop. But not that much.

yeah tha seems a bit much. we did boxes like that all the time for under 1000.

in the price, how were they gona finish it? paint i could under stand the high price..

We didn't even talk about a finish. I imagine that would be extra. All we talked about is a sealed sub box in the corner of my trunk. No amp rack, no design work for a ported box, just a 1 cuft sealed box fiberglassed into the corner of my trunk. Personally I felt like I was getting *****.
