Is there something wrong with my XXX?

I bought a Reconed XXX from someone. I am pretty positive it was never touched after the recone, since it was still sealed with wood covering in the Original RE box, and the foam around the mounting ring holes had not been penetrated yet. It sounds great, but i noticed that when i open the trunk and listen to the sub up close, there is a loud rattling noise coming from the sub itself, like resonance but its not resonanting against anything, its actually coming from the driver itself. You cab barely hear it from inside the car, but from the trunk you can hear it easily. What could be causing that? And would RE still be responsible since they reconed it for the person i bought it from and it wasn't used since then?

My 2000SPL's do that too... doesnt seem to affect their performance at all though.
Its not a huge deal, it just sounds annoying when you listen to it in the trunk, inside the car you can't even hear it though most of the time, and performance is not affected at all right now, besides that extra noise the sub sounds phenomal.

Could be the dustcap. Could be the box itself. Could be something in your trunk. Hard to say. Pull it out of the box and carefully power it free-air and see if you can get a better idea where it's coming from. Remember; when free-air, subs only need a fraction of their rated power to reach full excursion.

Technically no since the warranty is non-transferable. But, they may be nice and cover it for you assuming their is actually something wrong with it.

I had 3 other subs in this same box (RL-P, Infinty Perfect, JL W3) and none of them made that noise. I tried it free air, and it did not make the noise, but i also was scared to turn it up loud becuase i don't wanna ruin the sub like that. It is definately coming from the sub itself, whether its the box or the sub causing it im not sure, but its not something in my trunk.

Everyone ready for 20 pages? J/K.

Ok do exactly what squeak suggested. Find out where the noise is coming from then respond back here. No posts until you do this buddy. Lets get this solved quickly with as little hassle as required.

You might be clipping it like we tried to tell you about the rl-p then you get the xxx and clip the chit out of it and you can barely hear it whereas the rl-p makes a loud a$$ noise that you call "bottoming out"

What hat did you pull that out of lol.

The hat that includes my experience with the XXX and how simple it is to detect clipping with this driver.

??? I ran a clipped signal on my Hiconics to it, to see how the sub handled it. No noises were present during this. It's a pretty difficult driver to screw up. And actually takes effort to do so lol.

So I'd rather not jump to any conclusions regarding this guys sub...
