Is there something wrong with my XXX?

you ruled out tinsel slap? would they have done something to them during the re-cone? Longer, shorter?

No im not ruling out anything. I have no clue how RE Recones their XXX"s, all i know is it was freshly reconed when i bought it.

??? I ran a clipped signal on my Hiconics to it, to see how the sub handled it. No noises were present during this. It's a pretty difficult driver to screw up. And actually takes effort to do so lol.
So I'd rather not jump to any conclusions regarding this guys sub...

I set my gains with a DMM, and it was much much too loud, so i had to lower it. How do i even know if its clipping?

You would need an O-scope...

As long as you set your gains correctly we can rule out clipping. You still need to take it out and locate the noise remember.

Who said I'm jumping to conclusions? Simply adding my opinion knowing all the other "problems" he's had.

I'm happy you ran a clipped signal to yours and could not distinguish it. Never said it was easy or difficult to screw up. I have much use with the XXX and was easily able to distinguish a clipped signal with the driver. Same with my Brahma. As a matter of fact, I have noticed how easily every XBL^2 motored driver I've had has picked up clipping rather well. This includes the aforementioned drivers as well as the Koda 8s.

Is this bad, I don't think so. Personally I feel it's much better to be able to hear the clipping. It helps to know when there might be a potential for damage of the driver.

X2
Plus from the the previous thread, this seems to be the most likely //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

Why would it be clipping if i set the gain correctly, and then lowered it from there?

Refer to DJman's post. Also, many recordings nowadays are just horrible. They have clipping within the recording itself. This is especially common with MP3s. Do a google search for a program called MP3gain. It's a wonderful tool.

Im about to go out and take the sub out, how do i make sure i don't phuck anything up with the sub by playing it free air? I have to make the sub reasonably loud to hear the noise, and i don't wanna break it.

I agree with the guy who mentioned that xbl2 clipping thing... I recently installed my friend's Avalanche 12 for him being powered off a Soundstream PCA 2.880. When I set the gains using a DMM, my dumbass friend kept bugging me to up the gains because he was sure it could take it. So since its his system I decided to humor him... low and behold there was always this small rattle noise evident when clipping. For him it was a slight problem though because its in a hatch and you can hear it inside.
