Is the BOSS BV7985 any good?

Hey guys, I'm sort of new to car audio and saw this head unit. What I like about it is that it has 80 watts RMS per speaker, so it should put out some decent power until i get an amp. It looks pretty cool too. Have any of you used it?

No do not go there! you will spend twice that to replace it again when it breaks... and I know for a fact it doesnt do 80 rms probably more like 15 maybe

Oh, well hell. How can they say 80x4 rms 320w max? That's straight up false advertising.

I was also looking at the JVC Arsenal KD-AR8500. Would that be a much better choice?

check out .....Lanzar MAX / Toxic / Auna / BOSS / Loudest.com / Cougar..... these are all amps which have high numbers stamped all over them, but they mean nothing...lol

the jvc would be a better unit, but i can tell u right now ur not going to notice it being louder just by replacing the hu. its still stock speakers and the head units dont put out enough power to make enough difference.

If power is what you want then you should just jump right to an amp. You can find one with high-level inputs and hook it into the speaker outputs from your stock H/U.

Or you can do H/U and amp at the same time.

Also, Boss does not make ANY good products. Not even one.

Oh , my dad's marine head unit is going 2 years strong , and other than a alpine power pack , its the most powerful deck i have ever heard. I know little bit about sounds, Boss is one of the worst brands you could ever go with.

Kicker JL Audio, JBL MTX and other more name brands are good for your application.. YOu will spend little more but in the end you wont have to worry about broken amp.
