Is the American Bass HD sufficiently similar to the SoundQubed HDC3 - Box Design?

I have an American Bass HD 15 dual 1 arriving shortly. Finding information about them is difficult to say the least. I have read, however, that the SoundQubed HDC3 is very similar.

I have also found many forum posts stating that SQ HDC3s like a lot of port area. I was wondering if the same holds up for the AB HD?

I made these box designs under that assumption. Maybe someone has some experience with them and could tell me how the think the HD will perform under these conditions. I haven't yet decided which frequency I will tune the box so I have included all three designs and numbers.

Box Volume: 4.5 Ft3 (4.5 cubes)

Port Recommendations: 15” – 16” inches of port per cubic foot of volume.

4.5 Ft3 x 15” = 67.5 ft2 (square inches)

I assumed that 66 ft2 is sufficient (16.5” x 4” = 66)

Port Dimensions:

34hz @ 4.5 Ft3: 16.5” x 4” x 26.5” (MobileInformationLabs.com: 25.5,” the12volt.com: 27.5”)

33hz @ 4.5 Ft3: 16.5” x 4” x 28.5” (MIL.com: 27.5,” 12V.com: 29.5)

32hz @ 4.5 Ft3: 16.5” x 4” x 31” (MIL.com: 30,” 12V.com: 32)

Port Volume:

34hz: 16.5” x 4” x 26.5” = 1.012 Ft3

33hz: 16.5” x 4” x 28.5” = 1.09 Ft3

32hz: 16.5” x 4” x 31” = 1.18 Ft3

Port Material Displacement:

34hz: 16.5” x .75” x 26.5” = 0.19 Ft3

33hz: 16.5” x .75” x 28.5” = 0.20 Ft3

32hz: 16.5” x .75” x 31” = 0.22 Ft3

Bracing: 2 x 4 actual dimensions 1.6” x 2.6”

Top-to-Bottom: 16.5” x 1.6” x 2.6” = 0.04 Ft3

Side wall to Port: 26.75” x 1.6” x 2.6” = 0.06 Ft3

Front-to-Back: 20.5” x 1.6” x 2.6” = 0.05 Ft3

Total Bracing Volume: 0.04 Ft3 + 0.06 Ft3 + 0.05 Ft3 = 0.15 Ft3

Dual Baffle Driver Displacement:

Effective Diameter: 13.9” x π: 3.16” x Dual Std. Disp. 0.23 Ft3: 1.5” = 0.04 Ft3

Std. Disp. 0.23 Ft3 - 0.04 Ft3 = 0.19 Ft3

Total Required Volume:

34hz: Port Vol. 1.012 Ft3 + Port Material Vol. 0.19 Ft3 + Bracing Disp. 0.15 Ft3 + Driver Disp. 0.19 Ft3 + Desired Volume: 4.5 Ft3 = 6.04 Ft3

33hz: Port Vol. 1.09 Ft3 + Port Material Vol. 0.20 Ft3 + Bracing Disp. 0.15 Ft3 + Driver Disp. 0.19 Ft3 + Desired Volume: 4.5 Ft3 = 6.13 Ft3

32hz: Port Vol. 1.18 Ft3 + Port Material Vol. 0.22 Ft3 + Bracing Disp. 0.15 Ft3 + Driver Disp. 0.19 Ft3 + Desired Volume: 4.5 Ft3 = 6.24 Ft3

Estimated Overall Box Dimensions:

Height: 18"

Depth: 22.5"

Width: 33"

I am leaning towards 33hz. How do you guys think it will perform considering these conditions?

I'm not trying to be extremely loud, but I do enjoy a decent amount of output. I am more interested in maintaining decent sound quality at various frequencies. With an emphasis on the low end of course.

Then out of the three, go with 32hz tuning.
I went away to school a few years back. Before leaving I sold my 9518 and my Original series BTL. I haven't had anything decent since. I put away some money and I'm dying to get the beat back.

If I remember correctly I believe that I tuned all my other boxes to 30hz and 31hz respectively, without any problems. With that being said my tastes have somewhat changed an I listen to a more eclectic variety of music. The point is that I never really listened to rock before so I'm afraid of tuning too low and just getting garbage when listening to music besides rap.

Two hz different in tuning will not make a gigantic impact. If you were a competitor, I'd say build and test.

Response in the vehicle isn't very predictable unless many other people have experimented with your exact vehicle. Sub/port placement and cabin resonant frequency will affect your response more than a couple hz difference in tuning.

You're overthinking this. Some things you can't really nail down on paper.

I can't tell you if 32hz tuning will sound great with rock in your vehicle. Build and test with trial and error.

Thanks man, I really appreciate it.

I made an excel program that may help others. Juts input a few parameters and it calculates: port area, port volume, port wall volume, sub cut-out volume, driver displacement less MDF cut-out volume, bracing material volume, total volume required etc.
