Is my Digital Designs S2 a bad amp for subs?

The problem is you have people that don't do any research on any audio equipment then go into these shops and expect these guys to be honest with them.. The Biggest reason a lot of the car audio scene has dropped away is because of the GREED these shops have. Markups 1000% more than the eq is worth, over pricing to do installs and they LIE out their arse to get you to buy What they PUSH... I see it around here all the time, they get pissed when they see me in the shops here and people are in there and they are lieing to them.

It's hard to find a good shop out here that won't try to screw you. Im just kinda ticked me off i just built my first box with a design from Donh and they had nothing but bad things to say about it it sound 10x better then my old one BTW. the box looks good no leaks its glued and screwed 45'ed i worked hard on it. they just looked at it and said the port was too big i should of faced the subs back instead of up they just started talking crap about it. here a good question have you ever heard that you should NEVER face a sub up because the sub has to over come gravity which makes it less effiecent. the guy said that my amp only put out 500watts because of gravity.

All in All the guys seemed really cool did a good job on my friends tint but they just seemed miss informed and like to tell stories/make stuff up.

Oh man... that is some funny arse stuff there...... I really really wish i was up in that area... I would waste the hell out of their time for a few days... make them show me all the weirdest stuff i could think of makign them do.... But the guy and shop is a complete idiot... only thing that has any effect on subs/amp install.. box... wiring.. electrical... and weather but the weather is more or less for compitition stuff..

Jay's Audio here did a Tahoe with 6 15" cvr's in it... on 2 Kicker 2000.. dude paid around 5k for the setup, then another 2k for install... and it sounded like POOOOO...

could not hit anything under 40hz for anything and sound decent.. I was expecting to sit in here and have a headache... I honestly felt like my single 12 was louder in my car than this guys setup.

Well considering the fact that they all run audio pipe in prefab boxes I know my stuff is louder and better built. 1 of the workers downloaded an Spl app on his phone put it on my dash that says that I was only hitting a 101db too bad my epic 160 says 149

Alright i just got back for a local car audio shop and they are telling me a couple things that sound like BS but i just wanna see what you guys think.1. Digital Design amps don't do rated power

2. Since my amp is Class a/b it will always be clipping/ clip easily.

3. Since it is a/b it always run hot and therefore not put out rated.

4. A/B amps "can not" be used for subs. I was told a 1000rms class d will be better then 2200 a/b

5.i was also told that having too much port area will cause my amp to clip.

Im pretty sure it is all BS but this is coming from the owner so i would think some of it might be right. any input would be great thanks.-Jon

wow...you do realize you have one of the best amps ever made, right? That is old school tech at it's finest. I would not doubt it doing a lot more power than you think it does. Sure, you get down at 1ohm or less and the power requirements are enormous...but the output sure is sweet. And hell yeah, it will get hot driving stupid loads and drawing stupid current...if it is clipping easily, you better add another battery or two ..and at .5 ohms , you will probably need twice the current capacity as a class d 3k, but it is there and will sing a tune better than any class d made.

I went there about 4 weeks ago and was told 1 you dont need to tune for spl cars... and 2 that my componants were complete garbage... i run Hert mille and hlk componants btw.. i preceded to just walk out with out saying anything and the guy said hey where are you going... i was like to a car audio place that knows what there talking about!

They did a good tint job for $100 which i thought was reasonable. it just felt really discouraged when i left there. i was thinking i had to get a different amp, build a new box, and relearn car audio in general. i'm the kinda of guy that likes to believe everyone is not full of crap. when there trying to sell something. why can't they just say wow nice setup i have nothing i could sell you that would be better? It wasn't my intent for you to post the name of the shop up here I was saying we cold discuss it in person and with them:laugh:good way to kill time and have some fun oh and re inform them where there terribly wrong and if they want to debate it I would like the facts to back said B.S.

Firstly, we would NEVER sell a fahrenheit radio, double din or not for that price. Where you got that price from is beyond me. Secondly, when you arrived your system sounded like total garbage. Nobody told you that the amp you had by name was garbage and while I agree with what everyone else has noted on here, anyone who's been in this game long enough knows that the more you abuse your equipment the less efficient it will be. I'm certain I recall you stating that you bought the amp used which tells me you're clueless as to what the previous owner pout it through. Also, class A/B amps are notoriously unstable regardless of name brand. personally I find extrememly hilarious that my little Bullshit Power acoustik amp hits 90 times harder than yours at a fraction of what you paid. as you may or may not recall after I personally re-tuned your amp and flipped the box to what I thought was a better position, it did sound tremendously better and hit way harder. I personally invite anyone who reads this to come down to my shop with a hidden cam and mic or a full media crew and I gaurantee you will be pleasantly surprised and drastically misinformed as to what this gentleman has posted here!
