Is my amp cooked?

Been having tons of problems with my mids and highs and i think i may have finally narrowed it down to the amp. Its hooked up properly with a good ground and everything. But whenever i turn the gain up it sounds like complete trash. Got a set of infinity 6x8's running off it and they sound awsome when the gain is at 0. But when i turn up the gain ever so slightly its like the amp sends out a clipped distorted signal. So is the amp screwed or is it my HU mabey? Got the amp off craigslist so it would make sense.. lol. Also i just read the specs on the zx550.2 and it says 1% THD at rated power. That seems awfully high from most THD ratings of amps could that have something to do with it?

Also, i was wondering if it would be ok to hook up the 6x8's to my mb quart onx1.1500d just to see if they sound better? The amp says 500rms @ 4 ohm X1. So it would be safe to try to see if they sound better on that right? (with gain kept way down so they arnt overpowered).

could someone just tell me if i would be ok to run a speaker off the mb quart onyx1500.1d with gain all the down and volume low? Would make me one step closer to solving my issues.

not sure but I don't think the speakers are going to like the frequencies the sub amp will be putting out.

Right but i would plug the rcas from my mids/highs amp into the mb quart. So it would be running off the front rca out on the HU rather than the sub pre out like it is now. I dont see why this woudnt work correct? I mean the amp runs 500 rms at 4 ohms and the 6x8s are 4 ohm. I just wana do this and see if they still sound bad. If they do then i will know the amp is fine

That's a MONO SUB amp - NOT a good idea...

I have never owned a mono amp but I think it may not put out full range frequencies bc subs don't/can't reproduce highs, pull one of your speakers and try it on a friends amp. I hope you didn't get burned, but that's craigslist.
