Is my alternator powerful enough...

I'd say get the largest one you can afford/your vehicle can fit, at least 220 amps. (This could power your amps most of the time, except for loud bass songs). You can make up any lack of power with a bank of batteries. How many? You won't know until you've installed it. Just keep adding one bat at a time until you're satisfied.

ok now what type of battery and about what size should be the alternator to power the 3000 watts

Id say a 200 amp alt should do the trick but im not 100% on that one. Wait for someone else to chime in. You can at least check them out while you wait though

ok now what type of batteries should i use to power it once i get the new alternator installed and big 3 installed

Any deep cycle. Yellowtop is readily available at most auto stores. Harder to find locally but better batteries are Kinetik and Powermaster.

If an amp pulls 400 amps at full tilt on an extended sine wave...chances are a single 200 amp alt with proper wire runs and at least one extra battery will be plenty on music...hell do you really think steve meade running 30k watts rms has 2500+ amps worth of alternator? More like half of that.
Come on be serious....Do u think he plays that system for long periods at 20000 watts cruising down the road?

I dont think so....

Maybe cruising around 6000 rms which 1400 max amps and 500 amps at 1000 rpm would handle and I really doubt you can fit anymore in there otherwise I bet he would have....

Oh but look at the Escalade 5000 watts rms and two 270 amp alternators....And 5 batteries

Golly gee thats pretty ****ed close to what I recommended for 3000rms

540 amps + 5 batteries for 5000rms

400 amps + 5 batteries for 3000rms

Maybe you have all learned a little bit....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Learned something? Not from you.

Exactly. Do you honestly think this OP will be constantly playing his system while idling at 3000 watts? NO. That's why he doesn't need an alternator that can handle 3000 watts while he is idling. That's what the extra battery(ies) is for. Most music and the level he listens to it at will never take his system to full power.

Ok....

Yeah that would be stupid for me to assume that anybody would listen to a system at or near 3000 watts for any period in stop and go traffic or while driving under 1300 rpm.

you should just load your stratus up with extra batteries and alternators.. hahah no matter what when you drive down the road your still in an EFFING DODGE STRATUS!!!

ya but that effing dodge stratus will kick your sound system any day

Don't look at the highest amp/watt he runs...look at the lowest. If 1200amps + batteries is enough to suffice for 30k watts, obviously 2500 amps would be better...you can't go wrong by having more than you absoluetly need. I could put a 300 amp alt in my car to run 1000 watts, and it would improve performance over a 200 amp alt or a 100 amp alt, but that doesn't mean its necessary. Its not like the OP is trying to give his system the best electrical possible, he's trying to make sure its 'enough'.

Well stock is enough..it will work, but how well and how long....

And a 300 will improve performance at higher rpms but a 180 -200 is better if you do alot of stop and go, thats why I suggested two 200's.

Here where I am at it's all stop and go....

Nobody knows how to drive at a steady pace....

They like to take off like they are at the drag strip till 30mph....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif
