Is JL w7 that bad?

Paid 240 for it new with warranty knew someone at the store, and found a great coupon code after searching for awhile. Tried using it again, but they cancelled it after i used it or i would share it. The 400$ is crazy

240 doesn't sound bad at all. What size did you get? I know a guy who paid 1500$ from a local shop for two W7 12s. They got him good.....

JL 7 series is not a very musical sub. What JL did was walk away from their loyal fanbase. Back in the day if you had MB Quart mids and JL Subs you have the cleanest sounding setup in town AND they still hit LOUD. Now the 7 series is absolutely crap for SQ and all balls. Funny that if you stick their $400 sub against one of their 10-15 year old $200 subs it would sound horrible beside the old one playing "music". The old W5's were perhaps the greatest sub they will ever make musically.

So if you're old school you're pissed JL abandoned you and their core beliefs of music and sound to be going around farting 150db bursts and selling equipment on their name at highly overpriced standards.

two of my friends have 13w7's, i dont think they are bad. i just keep telling them for the price they paid, they could have had more stuff. they do sound good. What i like is that they have a lot of cone area for the size which is hy i want to try one in a transmission line but i cant afford one.

I dont like whe you try to buy JL people say its the best and won't lower their prices, i've olny had the lower end models but never owned a w7. i'm sure you'll be happy with your w7, but personally, i've heard a 10w7, maybe it was the box but i didnt think it sounded to clean. was pretty loud for a single ten though.

One of the best all around subs out there. And unlike DC audio, SSA, etc. It's not just the same rebadged XBL^2 driver.

the only reason people hate JL is because JL subs are great and they think JL is evil because their subs are more expensive than online company subs, which is fukin stupid. you gotta compare apples to apples

theres several subs out there that cost $500, $700, $1000+ etc

I dont think I've heard anyone say the w7 was a bad sub. Hell I wish I had one (or four). Some people are on the "I hate JL Audio no matter what" bandwagon. They make great products, and yes they are a little pricey but they dont seem to have a problem seeling them. I didn't care for the w3v2 series, especially sealed, whereas I like the w6v2 series sealed better than the w7 series sealed. Then again, I find the W7 sub ported works better than the w6v2 ported. Go figure...

I still have yet to hear a 13w3v3 to see how it compares to the 13w6v2 or the 13w7.

There is nothing wrong with JL. If its your money, and it sounds good to you, then thats all that matters. I have heard many more impressive sounding JL setups then unimpressive JL setups. People say that they dont get loud, and maybe in a SPL comp realm they dont, but for daily, I have heard some pretty ****in loud JL setups. The one aspect of JL that I like alot, is the low note extension is typically very nice on JL subs.

x2...my boy owns a JL setup.. dual 13w7's i believe.....n it DOES sound great, but he also got ***** in the price/install...a lil over $2500 for everything. BUT, he also falls into the category mentioned above, "don't know much about car audio" category.....but he wanted a system, didn't wanna install it, and had the funds to blow on it....so to each his own, i guess

exactly. of course better deals can be had. but the main thing is when that person is driving around bumpin and they can say to themsleves, "I am very happy with my system"...its thier money, and as long as they are happy with what their money purchased...

Most of the self proclaimed "audophiles" on this forum will in fact tell you the W7 is crap because they are going through a form of post decision dissonance on the products they bought themselves. It's just like when some chump buys a BMW and starts to berate and insult the competition (Lexus, Audi). There's little to no logic to this, aside from reinforcing his purchase. It's all cognitive dissonance. I first realized this after I bought an IS-F and I went to look on Youtube for some racing videos. What did I come across? BMW idiots ripping on Lexus. Lexus idiots ripping on BMW. Mercedes idiots ripping on BMW. The occasional Corvette hick ripping on all of the above. The best is the Nissan GT-R goons that rip on FERRARI's. You have the pound for pound speed idiots trying to compare an efficient Japense car to an exotic Italian supercar. Blah blah and so on... So what's my point?

In the end, if you are happy with the performance of your product, that is all that matters. Comparison shopping is for people with far too much time on their hands. People don't realize that their time is usually more valuable than the time they waste searching for the "ultimate, pound for pound, best product."

Jl has always been expensive. I would have a bigger problem with what rockford fosgate has become since the mid 90's. They are a joke. w7's are nice subs. people that don't get on the forums just think that jl is the end all be all of car audio because its all they've ever seen. They rake money in hand over fist and have huge marketing budgets. Its like a corvette z06 and a lambo. both are fantastic, but some people just buy the name and "prestige"
