is bandpass good or bad?

I just got my first system, a cheap set of 12'' Ma Audio subs, and an 800 watt amp(nothin special, but good enough for a high school kid from ND). Anyways, I have a traditional box with just two bare speakers. I was wonderin, should I get a bandpass box instead? I want to protect my speakers, as I will be on my high school golf team soon, and I will be putting golf clubs in the trunk. Is there anything wrong with a bandpass box? Or should I get some sub grillz and call it good?

Translation of what he said

Most pre-build(such as Q-Logic and others) are tuned high, so they generally have less output on lower notes and will peak at a higher, generally punchier bass.

Unless it's built professionally for your subs by someone who knows what the hell they're doing - dont buy it lol

The above information is correct. If you're simply looking to protect your drivers I would pick up some speaker grills and just be careful with your equipment.

Now, if you're not solely looking to protect the subs, but rather you're looking for increased output - try a ported box. They're much easier to design and build driver specific than a bandpass, and generally provide a great boost in output.
