internet brands - all they're hyped up to be?

OMFGz0rz, my sub pWnz j00r sub, nUbcakes !
Can we get out of the elementary mentality ? If you're happy with your sub, that's all that matters ...

Looking at the JL Audio 12W6v2-D4 Bl(x) curve, all I can say is that this is about as close to perfection you are going to get this side of Nirvana (the spiritual high plane, not the band). In our conversation regarding the 12W6v2's performance on the Klippel machine, Pat commented that this was hands down the most linear woofer he had examined to date. So what does all of the techno speak mean? It means the JL 12W6v2-D4 should maintain its sonic integrity and have only minimal changes in its subjective sound quality throughout its operating range -- and that's a good thing.
I would have to say that the 12W6v2-D4 is the best sounding subwoofer that I have tested for CA&E. Its low distortion, powerful impact and overall musicality give it a wonderful sound and invisibility in imaging.

And youve extencively listened to all subs in a variety of boxes with different amounts of power, right? If not dont talk, you have no room to talk WHAT SO EVER if you havnt. You are entitled to your opinion but your opinion does NOT override experience, so stop acting like it does.
Did you forget to read his comparison thread, there WAS a sq portion of it, or were you just completely ignorant of the fact that your poor SX got spanked by a sub that costs a 3rd of yours? Get over yourself, your talking out of your *** and making a fool out of yourself...
listen, i have heard a 15sx, also have an eD 15ae which is off a tc9 motor like the rlp so its somewhat similar, and have heard a fair share of type-r installs. The 15ae simply kills them all in terms of sq. the sx's and type-r's were pretty close sq wise from listening. in terms of linear output its no contest between the rlp and type r. they both will have similar sd's so at a given excursion will have roughly the same output. what does the type r have 18mm of xmax? so the type r at 18mm will have roughly 10% distortion as the rlp will only be at roughly 3/4 xmax therefore having well less than 10% distortion. this is not to say that the type-r cannot be louder than a rlp, because the type-r could have a higher xmech. however it is to say that the rlp has more linear output. It really can't be argued. If you do, you are arguing with the laws of physics not me...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

btw: what experience or knowledge do you have to share. Or is it you that is talking out of your ***

edit: i'm done with this debate. back to internet brands..........

Somewhat similar. The motor structure is a small part of the driver's total sonic character.
yeah true but I wasn't really talking about tonality. I was stressing more about linear output. which the 15ae and rlp are similar being as they both share the same motor but the ae having a slightly longer coil.

same motor = same woofer!?!?!? what a big fat load of bs... If thats what you base your experience on you need a serious reality check.

linear output = xmax and SD... again, BIG FAT LOAD OF BS. And who is to say the RL-P stays more linear than the type R throughout its range?? If anything the RL-P loses it before the type R.

Welcome to the real world, or maybe we should start listening with little pieces of paper instead of actually listening to the woofs themselves?

In a ported box xmax means about as much as the amount of chrome on the woofer...

so your telling me that a woofer with 10mm of xmax in a box tuned to 30hz will play a 20hz tone as loud as a woofer with 20mm of xmax in the same enclosure?....thats what i thought....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif

Something people tend to forget...the way the driver interacts with the enclosure can be far more important than its displacement. In home audio, that's why drivers with a millimeter or less of throw can be horn-loaded and still get ear-splittingly loud.

yes, its possible. 2.5 35hz box... my alpine type S had more output in the 30hz and below range than the RL-P... and the type R.

It was also louder than the RL-P by what was it, 2-3db and it handled the same amount of power before reaching mechanical limits.

But thats impossible, my lil piece of paper says so!

yeah, its possible if it has a higher xmech. but then again your talking distorted output not linear. i'm officially done with this thread. i'll just agree to disagree. i gotta go get ready to pick up the wifey.

edit: Spkrman, i sent you a pm with a link regarding linear output, give it a read.

ive heard a few in the JL sealed boxes... and they aren't impressive...
Also heard in JL REc'd ported box...not impressed again.

To each his own, but thats just not my cup o tea... the w7 is MUCH preferred SQ wise.
You might be the first person I have ever seen who indicated the W7 is "much" preferred to the w6v2, sq wise. Many flat out think the w6v2 sounds better.

I think my w6v2 is very impressive in a sealed box(I have never liked ported boxes anyway). Everyone else who has heard it loved the sound as well. Everybody's ears are different.

Cone excursion becomes more and more important in vented systems as the signal material deviates further and further from the enclosure's tuning point. While its not nearly as important in vented systems as sealed ones, I would not agree xmax means as much as the chrome on the sub in them either.
