No one is denying that. JL audio, Kicker, Pioneer, Alpine, etc. all carry superb audio gear and have been known for their superior products and have won many records.
However, because they are mainstream, that means that the excess costs that they use up (i.e. reasearch, design, advertising, and their large number of employees) have to be covered by you, the consumer.
The reason "internet" brands are all hyped up is because they can offer a superb quality product for considerabally less because of the low-cost maintenence.
That is what makes internet companies superior in my opinion. The fact that you can buy a piece of equipment that will perform just as well, if not better, for $300-400 direct from the manufacturer, than a sub that costs 500+ on
