Just installed it two days ago and thought I'd share my opinions of it.
Basically to sum it up before I start, this the best Mp3 unit under $400 IMHO. I was listening to the Pioneer DEH-P7400MP, Kenwood KDC-X659, Kenwood MP919, and some others. The Alpine just out featured them, and the SQ seemed a lot more clear on the Alpine.
The features are great on the 7894. Easy navigation with the remote, a little more tricky on just the HU itself, but its pretty easy to figure out. Haven't tried the XM out on it yet, don't plan on to either since the mp3s should hold me over on it enough, so I can't say how it sounds or works on that.
The design isn't that flashy. I don't mind this and it blends in with my truck. For us lazy people, the motorized face is great. However one down fall of the motorized angleing is dont have your finger under the unit when you open/close the unit with the eject feature //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/nono.gif.eca61d170185779e0921b0faa9704973.gif . The built in X-over is OK, nothing great, the Kenwood eX's series can beat it. The rotary dial on the HU is a bit too close to the other buttons of the HU and it seems not to have the middle levels I enjoy listening too. Sometimes you just can't find that just right volume level on it, it will either be too soft or loud. The fiance complains about this, but the louder the better to me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif.
Overall I'm extremely satisfied with this unit. I've owned higher end Eclipse models in the past, but this unit definately make me an Alpine man for now.
