Installed the HC

Yeah... I had a 12" RE HC with a torn surround, so I decided to fix it. It's like a 5" tear right at the cone. I used rubber cement and tissue paper to patch the surround. It's held up very well so far... I have burped it at 40hz at full tilt a few times, and played lots of bass heavy music through it.

I put it in 2.something @ thirty-something hz... I literally threw a box together in an hour and a half, and I only know it's vaguely 2.3 hz in the high 30's... I made it as more of a fart box for SPL back in Arkansas with a little daily driving potential.

I've been really happy with the output and clarity. It's got a nasty coil rub in the upper bass frequencies. It doesn't surprise me because those soft parts are really on their last leg, and I'm just waitin for them to go so I can recone.

I can't imagine why you'd have voice coil rocking occurring at specific frequencies, as it is nearly always related to excursion, not frequency. You may have some other kind of resonance issue, or perhaps the padding on the cone to reduce lead snap noise is worn thin.

At any rate, yes, that driver is probably due for a recone.

And yes, upon further listening, I can hear the coil rubbing at all frequencies... I just couldn't hear it up front. I had to go to the back to hear it.

I included pics and a vid... what more do you people want?!

I would like you to send me the sub so I can verify the coil rubbing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
