I just added 2 amps to my system to run a sub and the speakers. also installed a half farad cap. anyhow i was on the highway and when i came to an almost complete in traffic the car would just shut off. i would have to restart it. the battery light would come on right when it shuts off. did it a few times.

previously i had 1 amp and no cap. the car shut off 2wice, which both times when i had the music on loud. but after i stop turning up the music, it runs fine.

now even when the music is on low with the cap, car still shuts down..

i brought the battery to pepboys to get it tested, and they said the battery is good. i tested the alternator by removing the ground terminal, and the car still ran after the battery was disconnected, so don't think it's a bad alternator...anything else i'm missing?

power wire and cap on one side of distro block then there are 2 fuses. on the other side of the distro block..one fuse leads to pc450, and other side lead to pc2100. both amps ground by same ground. all remote wires running from hu, split into all amps and cap. cap grounded seperately from amps. everything powers on, and sounds comes out.

I hate to tell ya man but your pulling more current than your car can dish out. Which is causing your car to turn off. What kind of car do you have?

96 honda civic. i'll probably just take out the big ppi pc2100, and run the 450 as 2 channel fronts and bridge the rear. then. sounds good?

Check you wiring again. Im running everything in my sig full tilt with a 60 amp alt and get a little dimming. My car starts right up everyday day.

how big wire are you using?

i'm just using 8awg. i did remove the pc2100, and used2 channels from the pc450 to power the sub, but now the sub sounds like crap. it's a jl 10w3v3-4...however i'm not having any problems with the car shutting off.

Your asking for too much power. When you apply the brake it causes voltage drops... to unsafe levels, where your car then shuts off. Upgrade your electrical.

I have a voltmeter in my car and when you apply the brakes the voltage always drops.

NORMAL, ALL CARS DO THAT!

i tested the alternator by removing the ground terminal, and the car still ran after the battery was disconnected, so don't think it's a bad alternator

THAT IS NOT THE CORRECT WAY TO TEST AN ALTERNATOR FOR FULL AMPERAGE OUTPUT.

Most cars have hydraulic power brakes. The fuild is 'boosted' by a vacuum servo which requires electricity

THE HYDRAULIC IS ASSISTED BY THE VACUUM BOOSTER, WHICH DOES NOT DRAW ON THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, THE VOLTAGE DROP IS DUE TO THE BRAKE LIGHTS ILLUMINATING.

To the OP with the car shutting off problem, you need to determine if is an electrical system problem or an engine load problem.

Is your voltage dropping to 10v and below where the computer can't function or are the amps putting such a load on the system that the car can't Idle correctly?
