my amp shines the red protection light for a few seconds when the car is started and then it just turns off. I have a power acoustik OV2-1200... what is the problem?

the manual has stuff about the amp not switching on, protection lamp off, and amp turning off med/high volume. i dont know which one to check because the lamp is on but then everything turns off.

omg, dude.. I've been trying to my very best to help you throughout this entire issue with your amp, seeing as how I own the same amp.

You keep starting new threads every day about the same issue, instead of just adding onto your existing threads.

Then you start new threads with little to no background on your car's setup. I wager to say no one here knows that:

1) your remote wire was originally hooked up to your fusebox

2) your friend is an idiot who ran a power wire through the door

3) the power wire is probably still running through the car door

4) there's pictures that are somewhat helpful in another thread.

If you had simply added to your thread, people could come in and easily see the history of your problems and help you further.

Instead you come in here and start a new thread about the same red and green light over and over and over again.

Do yourself a favor and revive your most complete, longest thread concerning this issue and add to that one instead of constantly making new ones, okay?

That'll be a good first step.

And the 2nd step, would be to simply take it to an installer. You are not very good at describing your issue... because you don't know much about car audio. There are many many many variables that could be causing this, and you're providing very little information.

In reality, you either need to 1) take apart the entire thing (as was advised to you before) or 2) take it to an installer. Drive up to minneapolis.. i KNOW you're an hour away, but just do IT and stop *****ing. This was advised to you as well.

I'm not angry at you.. I just think you need a kick in the *** to get you going on this issue.

sounds like it was installed improperly, and possibly the gains were cranked. this WILL lead to blown up amplifiers.

and just because its cold OUTSIDE does not mean the amp wont\cant overheat from setting the bassboost or gain too high.

and its not the 'protection light' that is making your amp not work. its the stupidity of the person who installed it, and\or the person who was using it improperly.

sorry buddy - you prolly got a busted amp on your hands.

Ground?
Could be MANY problems, but always check your ground first. Be sure it is a bare metal surface and if it 'seems' fine then reground it to another location.

If that doesnt work, it could be a voltage problem...
haha i had that problem tonight, i had to cut off some wire cuz it was too big, like balled up and i put it back in, and no more problems, and voltage doesnt drop like it was since the batt is getting the power back to it

ALRIGHT! everything is solved... it was just that the power wire had been disconnected from the battery. now everything is working fine. thank god... i dont have to spend 2 hours a day on here searching and making topics about my questions and problems anymore.

in summary, i would just like to say that car audio is wayyy to complicated. when a friend suggested for me to get some subs all i thought i would need would be a sub and an amp and i could just like plug it in somewhere and it would bang. but god ****, they have to match up in channels and ohms and all this wierd shit, i need a box that fits exactly the right specifications for the subs (not to mention being made of the right material, and im not even going to get into trying to make one), i need a wiring kit, which isnt even set up to be installed, i need to rip my car apart and **** with the wires so they will connect and go through (oh yea, the manuals tell you jack shit about how to do this), i need ****ing sound deadeners all over my trunk, i have to buy some dmm thing and learn how to use it so i can set the gains, what the ****... its ridiculous, there is a lot of money in it for somebody to make car audio more customer friendly.
