Okay that might be a little over the top, but i have a second crippled 475a on my hands, and i'm not too happy about it.
Before you assholes jump to conclusions or assume that i'm coming here with questions before attempting to fix it or do research, let me tell you that my father (electrical engineer) and I looked at it and played around for about twenty minutes and came up with a general diagnosis. I'm just wondering if anybody has had this type of problem before.
Last night: start up car. listening to music. all of a sudden.. BLURP!! a mid- to high-pitch screech somewhere around 110+ decibels that lasts approximately 1 second. it scared the shit out of me especially because the music wasn't that loud. this happened a few more times on my ride home (about 40 minutes). just extremely loud bleeps and hisses that were short and infrequent enough to tolerate and keep the music on.
This afternoon: start up car. EXTREMELY FUCKING LOUD TONE. This didn't last for 1 second. It was so unbearably loud that i had to shut off the car. I stepped out, turned it on again, and the same thign happened. I waited it out, and after 10 seconds or so it cut off. I turned the music up, but it sounded distorted. I was like great, another goddamn blwon amp. So i had to drive to and from work in silence.
FYI i have the amp bridged to my front speakers.
Troubleshooting with father:
1) noticed that the incredibly loud screech coming was from front speakers, and loud hissing and some screeching form the rears, which are powered by a separate amp.
2) checked all cables. twice. everything firm and secure. dad reassured ground connection was very good.
3) unplugged RCA's from head unit. same thing.
4) turned gains down on amp. same thing.
5) unplugged RCA's from amp. AHA! no noise. but if it were my front amp being the problem? why weird noises from rear speakers?
6) we narrowed the problem down to one out of the four channels. but why would loud noise be coming from all speakers when only one RCA connected (no signal whatsoever comign through the RCA. just plain ole plugged in)?
my father mentioned that it could be some type of feedback, and that it could be due to a faulty capacitor. he said that when he has the time we'll take it apart and try to operate. he said for now i should look and ask around online. i was like "okay, i know just the place where i can get good solid respectful and insightful advice"
