In need of some opinions on a budget build

In my opinion, CVXs are quite a bit better then CVRS...To me, it is the only sub that Kicker makes that isnt in the "gets loud, but sounds like complete **** mold"....

quite a few people lately have been liking the MBQ reference line

I don't mean to sound ignorant, it's not that I won't agree there are better manufacturers out there. I'm not looking at full retail here, I simply can't elaborate to the extent of which I mean. Went and listened to a Polk Db 12 again today, and even the kicker comps made it sound shabby. If I had a grand to work with and I didn't intend to use this vehicle for transporting people/gear, it would be an entirely different story. To answer your question/suggestion Silvers, I have considered it. How would you directly compare it to a pair of CVR 12's, or the CVR 15? I understand that more power is going to trump the CVR, but by how much.
Correction: CVX15 is 1000 RMS The cvx12 is 750.

The CVRs will get loud with minimal effort. You can pretty much pop those in a sealed box and put an amp to them.

The CVXs will get loud, but sound better. Its technically the better sub. They have the potential to get louder than the CVR, but you have to do right by them.

In all honestly the right enclosure can make power seem irrelevant. I think my single ported HDC can take a lot of these local dual setups without even being pushed hard. But if were talking sealed I'd always go by number of subs first. So personally i'd go in this order SEALED

1. 2 cvx12s (Will be out of your power range)

2. 2 cvr12s

3. 1 cvx15 (Slightly out of your power range)

4. 1 cvr15

Ported is completely different.

lol i have 3 kicker comp 12's a memphis monoblock amp, a kicker 4 chanel and a cap for sale, everything is together in the box, and all is flush mounted

What would you say to a pair of CVX 10's sealed at .9cu ft each, on 1000 RMS? A little out of my original terms, but it doesn't seem like all that bad of an idea. A tiny bit underpowered but not by much. Alternatively, what about running them on a zx750.1? One more question on top of that, any thoughts specifically on the Solo Classics?

I'm only stuck on Kicker because I can get them for the right price. For reasons of professionalism and respect for policy, I can't explain in depth what that price is. The Type R's would cost more than they're worth in comparison, to me. To be fair and open minded though, anyone care to compare two Alpine Type R 12's on 1000 watts rms in a 1.8cubic foot box, to the previously mentioned CVX idea? I do appreciate the feedback

I actually had a similar setup back in '09 when I first joined this site. I had two 10" cvxs in a sealed 1.0 cu ft box being powered by an Alpine PDX 1.1000. I liked them at first, but quickly wanted more. But take into consideration I didn't do the install myself, and overall that very install ****** (wire was too thin and my ground was terrible).

running them on a 750.1 (although underrated) I don't advise it. I say either get the zx1000.1 or the Ix1000.1 or dx1000.1.

The IX and the DX are both smaller than the ZX, but they're also newer so I don't know much about them.

Now I don't know anything about the Solo Classics. They came out after I stopped using Kicker subs.

Yea I had a feeling the zx750.1 wouldn't cut it, I'd probably go with the Alpine M1000 because it's readily available (if I went the more power hungry route). I'm curious about the Solo Classic's, at 600 watts rms for the 12's and 450 on the 10's. On paper they look very comparable to the type R's. Kicker claims a recommended .66 cu ft box on the 10's (sealed).

Well, the reason I won't try something like the MB Quart Reference subs, is quite simply money. I can't afford a pair of those on top of the amp/wiring, even if I build the enclosure. Does anyone have anything to say about the sound of the newer Solo classics?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that this guy works for bestbuy and they have a pretty sweet deal with kicker right now or so I've heard from a buddy. He mentioned something about getting some 18" solo x's for like 500 a peice and said the rest of the lineups had similar discounts. You dont have to admit or deny but for the sake of the thread lets just assume the price your looking to spend per sub is in the $75-125 range.

I have 2 Type R's in sealed 1cuft box's with around 1000rms and they sound very good. Tight clear bass in all freq, and they get loud when I want them to.

I know there was a thread about a 2 for 1 on Type R's just a couple days ago.

If your looking for SQ I wouldnt be worried about power handling, you can make a 500rms sub sound louder then a 1500rms in the right enclosure.
