In college not working?

i'm currently going toschool part time, and working parttime, but i get no less than 30 hr.s a week, maybe more. plus its 10n hour so its not too bad for my situation. i still live at home so that helps too,but having money is whats keepin me workin. i hate asking my parents for money; and they recently got divorced so i pretty much pay for my own shit now. i dont think i could work fulltime as well as go to school full time, it'd be too much at this point in time. , but i'll most likely go to school fulltime next semester and keep this p/t job

i was wondering how many of you dont work and go to college full time. Im thinking about quiting my job and just focusing on school should i or not //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Its all about having a plan and sticking to it. Just take the minimum amount of classes required to be a full-time student and work a job that has flexible hours and isn't very demanding. Maybe get a job at a restaurant and get a free meal everyday:veryhapp: Try and get a small student loan that you don't have to pay off till after you graduate and use it to pay for bills and such, but the thing here is not to borrow more then you need! I would just take 12hrs or so my first semester while working and see how that goes and if you can handle both at the same time. Pretty much just manage your time and money and you can do it. Oh and work your *** off in the summer:crap:

Working and going to school can be very stressful.

I think you should try to apply to scholarships and Financial Aid to help you pay for college and even housing. Try not to spend on the unncessary things.

If you do well in school now, you'll reap the rewards later if you work hard enough.

However, if you don't do too well in school right now, you might not have gotten that pay rate that you could have gotten with better grades and all.

You get what I am saying?

Full time student for the past 2 years, my high school job and a little eBaying on the side paid for everything so far. I get NO HELP from my parents. I lived in the dorms for the first 2 years, now I'll be living in an apartment with 2 buddies paying $250 a month rent including utilities.

I made quite a bit this summer from working. Financial aid is a lot of help for me, I have 2 loans out thus far, both less than $1000 a piece because I paid some of them off. I will be finding a job this school year though because I'm going to want to have some fun this year at school, and have some plans for teh car ah-di-ohs.

I had a prof tell me (department chair no less) that working during school while taking a full course load is selling yourself short.

If you can find a way to survive during the 8 months and you're serious about doing well and what not, don't work. Take out small loans, work hard over the summer and focus on your studies.

Remember, if you can do that, you'll probably be eligible for financial aid and scholarships, as well as bursaries and other funding sources.

Keep your grades up, and you'll find the money if you need it.

If you can, I think you shouldn't work and just finish school asap. I've been working through college and it's really slowed me down. I'm in my 5th year and have about 1 1/2 years left. A couple of my friends didn't have to work and they've been done since last year and they have jobs that pay pretty good and don't have to deal with school anymore. Oh yeah, working and college = lots of stress. If you can save yourself the stress, I think you should go for it. You can work all you like after college at a career you want to be at. Just go to class and use your free time to study and hang out with friends and of course car audio... Good luck!
Well put, I just quit my job because this is going to be a hard semester for me. The money you make now is pocket change compared to the money you'll be making after your degree. My parents taught me the value of saving money, and because of that, I can comfortabley quit my job and focus on school.

C'mon now...step your game up. Taking 18 hours and working two PT jobs shows dedication and ability to work long and strenuous hours. I disagree with your prof and so does my dept chair. Very impressed in what I did.

I am not bragging. I just respect those who work while in school much more than those who don't. Missing out on much of the social aspects of college makes you a stronger person, and much less likely to catch a STD.

What is your major? There isn't as many jobs out there as they would have you believe. My best offer so far has been $35k. I am a finance major.

Thinking of going UTK (tn vols) for my MBA-JD as it may open up more opportunities.

Worked full time through college, summers I worked two jobs. I now have all my schooling paid off since I graduated in December, currently am working one Full time job, and a part time job = ~37,000/yr. Since I started "working" at 16 I've had at least one full time job, and at most two full time jobs and one part time job. (full time = 40hrs for me, part time = 20-30 hrs.) Thats fine w/ me, I pay for all my toys by my lonesome, and have stellar credit.

Oh yeah, fyi- real world=stress, if you cant handle stress in college, good luck later!

i think ill take ur advice wonder bread and just focus on school i have enough money saved up to make it last 6 years(i dont spend any money only on gas lol) but thanks everyone i appreciate your replys //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
