I'm putting together a complete system.

you should let us know what your settings are on your HU also..What HU..
Pioneer DEH-X6700BT

Pioneer DEH-X6700BT Bluetooth Stereo w/ Pandora for iOS & Android

Settings I left default except for Loudness. I had loudness @ Medium.

EQ comes default @ Powerful

HPF was @ 80hz

The Amp was LPF@ 20hz HPF @80hz and gain was left @ 40... but when it kept recycling it was saying 80.

Hi2 switch was on Hi...

Another odd thing, when I hooked up my brothers amp (we bought the same amp), Lo would hit nice, and Hi wouldn't really hit at all.

I had the Gain set to 70, and the bass would cut out and then turn back on. Amp wasn't hot though.

I lowered the gain to 65 and dropped the loudness to Low and it never happened again. This was also with the HDS212, not with the Kicker sub.

Did you even read the manual?

So were you using the x-overs on the amp or the HU? There was an HPF on your sub amp or which amp are you talking about? HPF at 80Hz is a bit low.

Loudness off, head unit volume 80% of the way up, sub level max, low pass and high pass both at 80hz. Eq on flat. Amp should be low pass open, or a lot higher than80hz (your head unit took care of that already). No bass boost. Play a song and slowly up the gain till it stops getting louder and back it off a bit afterwards.

Also make sure the amp is not in slave mode or something

you can also do the opposite and have the low pass filter all the way up to 200hz or more on the head unit and have the low pass at 80hz on the amp.

That amp has slopes to select and EZ gain. It's all in the manual.

Make sure you set everything correctly with the new amp, it'll be far simpler I'm sure. Don't use x-overs on both amp and HU - use one or the other. Start HPF at 120Hz and LPF at 80Hz, then play with them from there depending on what you like and what sounds good (no distortion).

Its not as simple as just putting stuff together and hope it works. You need to design the box based on the electromechanical parameters of the subwoofer (aka thiele small parameters) and actually graph out the frequency response along with measuring SPL output capabilities AND make sure there is no port noise or compression.
Nah, I just wing it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
