I'm putting together a complete system.

kickers are good subs, I have 4 of them. had them since high school and they still slam. I abuse them too, I make them flex from peak to peak every time I play them. never bottomed out on me. ppl will always hate on them for some reason, but if you want to go for kicker subs I say go for it. they are a great entry level sub. ps: now that ive upgraded to AA havocs I have yet to see what these 4 18s will do. my cvrs used to blur my vision and flex door panels. on cars next to me. 4 18s is gna be out of this world. im nervous

That 12mm of excursion? So much flexing going on.

Don't see how this is relevant. He already has a sub, we're talking amps now. He's already decided on the JBL 1000EZ.

From what I've heard about JBL amps, you can expect it to do at least its rated power.
Here's the box guide from SQ:

Box Sizes and Tuning

Largest size for a 12 is 2.75 cu ft, it also gives you the port dimensions, though I don't know what tuning that translates to. Before you do anything, touch base with CSCStang and run your plans by him. He has a 10" HDC and it's in 2 cu ft, so I imagine you can do bigger than that for a 12".
Is bigger always better? I thought the bigger you go, the lower the spectrum that the sub covers. Wouldn't too low be bad for metal?

Most importantly, NoLoud4U won't be able to rag on it hahahahaIf you're not sure about something, make sure you ask first. As you can see, even smallest mistakes can end up costing more money.
Well, luckily I haven't had to pay anything out of pocket except 10 dollars to ship back. But it has been a good learning experience.

Thatm my friend, is a myth. Going with a bigger sub gives you more output, it doesn't change the frequency response of the driver. The box does. You can see my box specs in the signature. It's perfect for pretty much all music and I can still get very good output at 30Hz and below - that's that decaf stuff. It also blends perfectly with my front very well. Again, talk to CSCStang, he's the expert on box building and tuning. I just know what sounds good and what doesn't, but only once it's built haha

that port area rule.. isn't it a bit better to go by the qts. like a sub with a high qts less port area per cube like 12, 13, 14, and lower qts more port area per cube like 15 +

Large with proper port area will play flatter for more bandwidth. You don't want a **** load of port. 15 sq inches per cube is good

I think we can put this thread to rest for now. ArmyNavy, here's the outline for your near future.

1. Get the JBL 1000Ez

2. Talk to CSCStang as he offered to give you a hand. I think you can aim in the 2.5 cu ft range.

3. Most amp manuals say the same stuff. Set the gain to match the output voltage of your HU. Turn it down from there, if needed, and call it a day. Not rocket science.

4. Let us know how things are going once you've started the box building process.
