I'm inFInitely Baffled.

Interesting. What frequencies are we dealing with here? It may mean absolutely nothing if they are below the audio spectrum...
I wonder how 2hz @ ~140db would feel like //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

how much gain adjustment did you have to make going IB?
I've been lazy lately and have not set my gains w/ a DMM. But I just slightly turned the gain down a tad bit.

If its 2Hz lower at 20Hz for example then who cares? Even then, who can sit there and be able to decipher between 2Hz anyway.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

haha. Thanks guys.

Time for me to continue on w/ the deadening and foaming here and there. I just toook out my headliner and misc. panels. It's going to be one hell of a night.

welp. here's a little progress pics. not much, though.

some old deadening from years ago. I cut out pieces that were loose and re-rolled over some bubbles... ( i did a crappy job)

you can see a huge patch that just came off w/ the headliner.

the max again.

foaming away. using the window/door formula because it doesn't expand too much.

I'm not even sure if the foam will make a difference in these areas, but I have a few cans to spare, so what the hell. it might help.

cool stuff man. all the other gurus beat me to it. i agree, dont bother making vents, your trunk is quite large.

i need to calculate the area in my hatch... i may have to make some vents. when i play low notes at loud volumes - its quite amazing, that 70lb panel hops around a bit.. i gotta make some reinforcements to that shit on the sides. some sort of rotating cuff to stop it from bouncing.

i still have lots of shit to do to my car, but ive been so **** busy with other peoples installs and lack of $ i have just not found the time to spend on my own stuff.

if i ever make it out to la with my vw (wich i might go as far as arizona because i have a good friend moving there in a few months) ill be sure to let you know.

and also - it should be quite easy to build a trim panel for the baffle there. cut out something that matches the trapezoid shape made by the plastic trim there, and tape off the trim. then temporarially screw the piece on, and squeeze short hair reinforced body filler in the gap between the panel and the trim pieces, sand smooth, and paint or vynl. (dont forget to cut a sub hole too)

it could look real great with like 4 hours of work total and some vynl.

I see what i can do. I still have to rip it to my comp and zip it up. PM me and addy that will accept a large attachment, or I can possibly send a hardcopy.

I'm starting to think i'm what some may call.. a "fanboy"

also as seen in the pics, i also have one of those dash mats. It really helped a lot with my stage height.

I use to tell people, " what do you mean my stage is not eye level... you just need to look down."

The first time I heard an infinite baffle was back in the early 90's. My buddy showed up with his fresh install and I had a listen. It was a pair of kickers (iirc) IB, which he called 'free-air' just like everyone else called it back then. I remember he cranked the volume, we sat there and listened, and he literally had to point out where the bass line was hitting through the subs, in case it was too subtle for me to catch.

At the time I knew jack, and I thought wow cool. Later I learned more about sub systems and I remembered how subtle his subs were, how he even had to point it out to me because they were so... non intrusive. I built my massive overpowering sub systems, looked back at his subtle bass so easy to miss he had to literally point to the cones to show me when they hit, and Id laugh.

Now Ive been around a while, and Ive gained alot of experience. I look back at that guys subtle bass setup, so non intrusive I could miss it, and I think... cool.

Finally, Ive come full circle. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

roger that. if it comes down to it ill give ya me address. maybe get on AIM and send it via that way. also if you dont mind, include any material you justify as SQness. i like listening to what other people enjoy - espically with systems similar to my own.

ill look into one of dem carpet thingays. i dont see how it should help really when we are dealing with horns. speaking of, im going to listen to some hotel california in my sennheisers so i can see where the insturments are located.

them carpet thingays helped a bunch. I took the advice of Jeremy Mullins (an ex ID employee). He told me that it was the most simple non-expensive way to bring up my soundstage. His reason was that sound was reflecting in between the windshield and my dash. Also, i remember reading somewhere that the sound from horns travel up the dash. Either way.... the shit works. almost the best ~$20 i spent.
