I'm inFInitely Baffled.

I know I should take my time, but so **** difficult to not rush and finish it and listen to it. Unlike some people, I can't stand driving around w/ no sounds. it drives me crazy.

For the trunk design, i may take my time.

things are going quite nicely, though.

here's the baffle piece that the idmax will be mounted on.

there's some fat weather seal between the birch and metal. I was planning on using expanding foam but decided on weather seal so the board piece can be detached in near future.

Any sub can be used IB, it all depends on what the specs are to determine what kind of sound you will get. In SOME cases power handling goes down, in others, like maybe this case, the power handling may have increased.

IB setups can't really be beat for sq because of the mear fact that the sub isn't fighting with the trunk and other aspects of the car to get its musical notes heard in the cabin. IB is a great choice for anyone.

i am not a fan of infinite baffles...
but never heard one either...

good luck sealing all that up... looks like you have a good start already though...
Hear a few and I guarantee you will change your mind, as long as they are correctly setup, btw how can you not be a fan of something you've never experienced?

Neither one of these are the case. IB may not be a great choice for some people and it is very possible to have better sound quality from other types of setups.

I had to reroute some wires so they'd be out of the way and out of the middle section, which is where the birch baffle for the sub will be.

Becareful to make it so the power wire can't move where you have it in between those brackets it could ground out.

cool stuff james.

it seems you have caught up to me. currently, i am ampless. *grrrr*

i wish i had some IDMax12's - or if possible 15's. id be doing a 140+ on the TL - because in my last car my IDQ15's did a 139.x on the TL with 600~800w in an IB very similar to yours. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

im waiting on the idq15v3 to get realeased. and them im gonna sell my idqv2's and get those. hopefully its just a drop in. glad you made the change man. you wont wanna go back. all you will want to do now is get another idmax and double the power. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

now get it all cleaned up!

(this was really dirty, but we just finished wiring it. in fact. we left a ziptie and a piece of scrap wire in there on the left. that drives me nuts.)

nice observation. i was a little worried about that, too. I'll be sure to give the wire a little more slack between those brackets.

Before I started to get to work, I was wondering if I should leave room for another iDmax or not. I already have the power on hand for another one (soundstream vga 1600.2) I'm only using one of the two channels. But being pretty broke, I decided to just go with one 12". and guess what... I found someone to trade me and iDmax 12 for and amp //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

But it's all good. this one 12" is gettting loud enough for me to be satisfied.

and Req, you need to give me a call if you ever decide to take a stroll to the west coast.

Does it matter if air is leaking to the outside of the car (magnet side)?
I not sure, but I wouldn't suggest it. I would think that the leakage may have some negative effect. My trunk had a vent that I sealed up just in case. maybe someone else can give you a better reply on that question.

Many would argue that allowing air to escape would be beneficial since it brings the alignment closer to a "true" infinite baffle setup rather than just a very large sealed box. I do believe Scott Buwalda (or someone of the sort) went so far as to cut a hole in the bottom of their trunk and covered it with gortex to intentially allow air to pass to the outside of the vehicle. And most who go IB are fond of trunk vents for this reason aswell.
