If you had $2200 for amps what would you buy?

Gunna do two vp 700.1 for $2200 shipped

Yeah batts with caps didn't really change my score all that much.... .5db at most, bass had more impact though and "hit harder" ...caps with lithium?? Is beast gained 2db and I have a buddy who dropped his rear battery bank added caps and lithium and gained 3db
This might be a stupid idea, but I used to build NiCd drill batteries at the shop. We also sold 18650 lithium batteries with weldable terminals. I can buy bulk lots of 18650's cheap.

How feasible would it be to make a bunch of 18650 banks? I could physically spot weld them with nickle, but I'm wondering how 18650 banks would work daily....

without individual balancing, poorly.. the cycle life really isnt that great - especially with the type of battery im guessing youll be able to get

look at some large battery bank set ups people use for electric vehicles and home power banks on youtube to get a better idea of whats required. they do it, but it works for a few reasons

just to be clear why i think this (in theory); the high discharge and charge you'd be subjecting the cells to daily is much different than that of a bank used for backup power supplies. you know a lot about why that causes issues (ESR) so hopefully that helps you brainstorm

Balancing is what I'm worried about. Might be able to research and find out how lithium drill batteries and Tesla cars balance cells.

Actually, Tesla uses 18650 banks in the model S battery pack.

Yep, lithium is used a lot as just power storage. Things are different when a constant float/charge is being put into the system at the same time as there is a draw.

Two issues are balancing and how alternator charging would work daily.

I might get some 14v batteries too then. Aren't capacitors alone better than capacitors with batteries though? I know they burp higher
If you only need to make power for 3 seconds you're in for a lot less cap banks, if you're trying to sit around and be a blowdrier you'll need more long term reserve.

i tried to do some research on it but didnt delve too deep, in all honesty i dont think they balance them other than in the low voltage groups before they get put together in series? if that makes sense. bunch of cells together at 4.2v fully charged are charged at 4.2v before they are disconnected from the parallel circuit and connected to the series circuit.

my understanding is that instead, because they produce their own cells they can match them in groups based on similar ESR and final capacity, avoiding most of the issues with balancing each individual cell. yadda yadda C ratings become a lot more equalized by default.. c rating is capacity times output capability so grouping them together gives you closer matched cells.. im rambling

i also believe that the draw on the entire bank is much much lower than what you'll be using. peak draw with an audio system is likely much higher but then again those electric motors do demand A LOT of current. definitely out of the realm of my technical knowledge lol tesla gets paid well to do these things

Alittle update. I have one vp 700.1 wired at .33ohm and it's a beast. Sounds just as loud as my ampere tfhe but the vital

Power runs COOL. The ampere would get hot fast. I would have to have two turbo fans on it and my hatch open to demo for a long time. This VP 700.1 runs cool/warm to the touch with the hatch closed. So far I'm loving the amp. Very nice for $1100

Thought you had 2 of those amps?

Lol Man U don't follow along on the forums very well. I have two of them. I was waiting on the Jim machine distribution blocks to wire up the second amp. The first blocks came unfinished on the end and missing a set screw, so Jim sent out another set and I just got them. I will be hooking the second amp up sometime this week.

I have four d2 woofers so I can wire that read alittle high.all four to 1.2ohm

All four down to .33ohm

Each pair down to .66ohm

I really want a sundown NS2 but it just cost to much money. Can't afford it nor would I pay $3500+ for one amp. With that being said.

1.VFL 20k wired at 1ohm $2200

2. Two vfl 8ks wired at .66ohm each $2150

3. Two vital power 700.1 wired at .66each for $2200 he said if I bought two.

Or any other options? The vfl 20k looks like a beast but I haven't seen anyone with one yet. Anyone see any clamp numbers out of the VFL 20k?
get 4 of these lol, peeps say they gonna get crazy expensive soon Brutal Sounds 5000 Watt Amplifier - Brutal Sounds
