If JL is good but overpriced, at what price point should they be?

I've never really cared much for TC in the last few years, so I never looked into it enough to comment on it, you wouldn't by chance happen to have a dumax or klippel test on it would you?
I don't know of any that can be shared publicly. There used to be a FEA'd BL curve simulation on the TC Sounds site that you can look for if you'd like. You can see the ridiculously low distortion measured here though (have to wade through a few posts to find it):

comparing tech in the 2 woofers is a joke too. I dont' care how new Fi is, there is nothing new about the design, uses older motor topology than the W7 I'd bet.

That's the thing that got me in the other thread, some of these people ACTUALLY think the Q has some weird technical advantage over it. The most advanced thing on the Q is probably the cooling option.

The Q relys on so many off the shelf products. The cone, dustcap, surround, spiders, coil, and basket aren't anything close to special. Not even gonna mention BL distortion as that's already been covered.

Yeah the W7 may be a dinasour in terms of its age, but it still one of the most talked about and compared to subs.

The LMS drivers from TC Sounds are retardedly linear...
In npdang's testing of the Eclipse SW8200, his plot of the distortion analysis showed that the suspension accounted for a higher percentage of the driver's distortion than BL.....which is quite an interesting feat.

I haven't seen similar test data for other linear-BL drivers (W7 included), but I would be interested in knowing which others achieve the same results of minimizing motor distortion to the point that suspension related distortion accounts for a higher percentage of overall driver distortion.

Yes, and the funny thing about the SW8200 is that the buildhouse on those particular drivers had some QC problems...hence the very asymmetrical BL curve. The LMS-5400 BL curve that I saw was perfectly symmetrical with ruler flat BL out past 30mm. Now that is something.

Oh, and Cms linearity and symmetry was better as well. I would definitely say that it is the reference driver to beat based on what has been openly (and privately) discussed.

I NEVER EVER EVER imagined that JL Audio would one day be the CocaCola of subwoofers. Wow! Good for JL. I can honestly say, I'm proud of the company.

I've been using JL since the early 90's when I got three 10w6's. Back when no one knew what the FU(K they were. "JL what?! Don't you mean JBL?"

Some hate JL. I hate Honda. I think Honda's are overpriced. At the end of the day, who cares? That's why you can buy whatever you like.

For me, it's like that old guy who's first car was a '67 Camaro. To him, it was just that first car that he loved. Now it's an icon. And he still has one.

I still have an old 12w6 that goes in every car I own, and I love it. When it decides to die, I'll get a new w6 or a w7.

hey local...where downtown do you live?

on a side note, is that a jaguar x-type? if you dont like honda i dont understand why you would like an overpriced contour

seriously comparing a jag to a honda? again thats like saying a ferrari or lambo is over-priced...

over-priced is not always the right term, in some products you pay alot more for a little more performance or a little more luxury... and a name

like range rover, i got a friend with one, they are hot, but man that thing is a POS in the shop every other week... i hope his is just a lemon cause if not, range rover sucks...

but then again, everyone likes them, thus there is a demand for them, thus they're more expensive....

price doesn't neccesarily reflect performance but more public opinion

That's just complete BS. The XR's are superior to the VR's in every way.
i disagree, its a subjective matter, the Xr's hurt my ears at higher levels, they are too "bright" again they sound amazing at lower levels but when going for a louder setup i perfer a silk, or textile dome to an aluminum, and i

hate titanium tweets...

And you're the perfect tool to fall victim to badge engineering. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

i don't see it that way... i know there are comparable products that cost less, i simply wanted the JL's

same as the examples of cars, one might perform just as well as another, but i want a specific one...

i think the discrepancy is caused by angry enthusiasts getting pissed off cause they have setup A (none JL) which performs just as well as setup B (all JL)... but setup B gets more attension then theirs...

then they come up with every reason they can why JL sucks, but JL is still around cause it doesn't ****...

you don't build a name that sells from selling shit... it's clear that JL is high quality equiptment and the company has pioneered the car audio world...

i've said before, the W7 has been at the top-end of subs for years...

i hate to think of what the W8 will be like:crazy:

I'm not even going to mention my post wasn't about your choice of car audio... moving on...

JL still exists because people like you will pay more for equipment with the JL name on it, because you want to impress other ignorant people, such as (many) X Type owners hope to do. My advice, save some money on car audio, and go buy yourself a fake Rolex, a Gucci belt, and a gold grill. That will get you the attention you need.

I know very little about car audio, but when I see a JL 1000.1, the first thing I think is "This guy payed $700 for a 1000 rms amp?!".
