If JL is good but overpriced, at what price point should they be?

I can find the w7 just as easy as a mag. It takes about the same amount of keystokes.

I have a JL dealer...but they don't have any W7s in stock. Special order...

alright well heres what we know so far.

audiolife for some reason feels the need to stick up for JL.

me and flip have the same standpoint.

i really think ur just trying to stir it up now

and yes, i said I would take a mag any day over a w7, not speaking for everyone. personally, id rather go online and buy an authorized mag direct than go to the store and buy a authorized w7 for 490235r9nmewg0a352 times the price, but thats just me. im sure we're all familiar with basic microeconomics. the benefits of a mag far outweigh the benefits of a w7 - for me.

part of it i am having some fun, part of it i shake my head at and laugh and part of it i find interesting.

99% of the argument is it is too expensive. As i see it i have 2 economists who just go by the consumers side of the economy. if you were working in that capacity for a business i think one would look at JL with a little more respect at what they have accomplished. the w7 is how old? and if you look around it is probably the bench mark everyone sizes their woofers against and has been for YEARS. what is also pretty remarkable is they have their own R&D and have their own distinct parts. They are a giant that other companies hope to be. They sell more at the prices they set as well.

the statements that people who buy jl are are uneducated is pretty lame considering the fact more than 1 jl woofer is the bench mark used by other companies price point offerings too. what do they make that truly sucks? what do they make that is worst in its class? I mean surely if they **** and the people who buy them are so stupid they could run even worse gear. this whole argument can be made about cadilac, rolex, and about any other expensive things.

I am not a huge fan boy of JL, i like them but they arent my fav, i like kicker, hifonics, hell even RF. why? they all have their strong points and have stood the test of time.

Just because it costs more doesn't mean it's better. Because better is quite subjective. I see some many mt/fi/whatever hybrids...can't do that with JL.

I agree about the bashing JL because it's too expensive. That is a silly argument.

But understanding the dynamics of how transshipping hurts the industry...that is something I like to explore in greater detail. There is so much to the retail side I do not know.

Like I mentioned, I never argued that JL was overpriced. Hell, I run equipment (besides subs...I don't listen to very much bass heavy music and find it silly to spend much over $250 on a speaker that plays from 20 - 60 hertz.)

I think JL does great things...like the amps that play the same from 1 - 4 ohms. See I would pay extra for that. I think that is really neat.

The two "economists" (I use that term loosly) are trying to detemine how transshipping will eventually hurt the consumer. My comments about the mag were in jest.
