If JL is good but overpriced, at what price point should they be?

There are some speakers out there that sell for more than $1200 and croak with power levels over 25W RMS...and I, and a lot of other people, absolutely love them //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Now im curious. More info on said drivers.

This thread has gone a long time and I cant read it all. I have owned alot of subs from 1994-2001. I owned a few JL's in that time but was more into RF, AA, Crossfire, Pro Tech, and some others.

Its hard to compare JL to alot of new companies. New companies have less overhead and less baggage from doing business for years. Sometimes the reason new companies even get started is great creativity and value.

The problem is sustaining a profitable and consistant company that up holds their warrenty, continue R&D, and continue to stay very competitive. When comparing JL to companies that have been doing car audio for 25 years the list gets really small. Overhead, R&D, Marketing, Sponsors and so on add to the cost of products. The truth is JL has made improvements on almost all of their products over the years. R&D is very expensive. They have stayed profitable and are making it through times when many of their compeitiors are sending manufacturing overseas.

I really dont care if they are the best or over priced but they do have a comprehensive line that they have slowly expanded on over the years still holding quality, USA manufacturing, new products, and core products at the same time.

Come up 5 companies that have done this well over the last 5 years???//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

i wouldnt pay more than 250 for 12w7 new.....

w7s are ok subs, kinda old school already IMO and have easily

been left behind as "best in class" by dozens of competitors

IMO they should cost 300-400 bucks.... More and more I see

the car audio industry as becoming more of commodity products

here today gone tomorrow - Internet brands are always coming out

with newer and better products similarly to the PC industry

whats hot today is old a year from now......W7s are dinosours.sure

they sound OK but regular car audio junkies are always looking to make a better

sounding system...JL imo is for people who are not in the loop so much

and retail buyers....They have alot of hype surrounding them which is

why they are still selling today...I'll take my FIQ over a W7 anyday

It funny how people complain and such about money and say jl is overated, but i think alot of these "bargin Internet recones" aren't as good as I expected from what ive heard personally. Just because it has a huge basket and cost $250 and handle 1000,000 watts rms but is only rated a 1000 doesn't mean it's great, most come and go like the wind. I remember when RE was all the talk and how XXX was the w7 killer, RE is like mainstream now and the XXX cost the same if not more then a w7. I feel if you can afford a expensive sub then great, and if you can't then dont bash a brand cause you think it's over priced and can't afford it so u go with brand x. The w7 doesn't need a remodel because it's not needed? What would u add to make a w7v2?????????? Not everyone wants a 100lbs 4 cub spl monster that someone will try to say has great sq too but doesnt.
