If JL is good but overpriced, at what price point should they be?

really? how many small businesses go under once a wal-mart goes in? does the average wal-mart worker makes more than the small business worker that is now no longer in business?..what about the local tax breaks that wal-mart gets to move into areas? who pays for that? there are cases of wal-marts that move into towns then move out just as soon as their tax breaks end. infact there are cases where cities and townships fight pretty hard to keep wal-marts out
a) The BLS has some statistics that the hourly worker at wal-mart makes about the same as the hourly worker in a mom-and-pop store...which isn't much.

b) Why can't those small businesses be competitive? Wal-Mart once had to compete against Sears, Woolworths, Montgomery-Wards, and a variety of large department stores. Wal-Mart had to compete, why can't they?

c) The lowest paid make about the same. The owners/managers of the mom-and-pop experience the greatest reduction in wage. Not the 16 year olds.

d) Not all Wal-Marts get tax breaks. Some have to pay surcharge taxes because they burden the community with excessive arrests for theft.

e) There is a negative perception that Wal-Mart hurts the feel of a community. And I agree. If the residents yearn for a town were everyone shops on main street, has a "community feel" and everyone knows everyone...then no, Wal-Mart isn't good....but in sprawling subdivisions where neighbors don't know each other..(like mine. My neighbor's house burned down and I couldn't tell the fireman how many people lived there, what they looked like, or anything) then Wal-Marts are generally accepted.

But earlier you said they did not contribute significantly to sales...if the transshippers are responsible for the majority of the volume, and the transshippers sell on the internet, wouldn't it stand to reason that quantity sold would not be signifcantly reduced by the lack of other volume?
I don't really know what a transshipper is...I assumed it was a "dealer" that buys mass quantities, stores it in a warehouse, and sells on the 'net...while still having the front at his local shop. Again, I am not an industry insider.
when it becomes big enough that the transhipper is not selling what they normally do in their retail stores my guess is they would either stop transhipping or start closing down retail locations and continue to tranship.. thing is though its easier to get caught when you are shrinking in size and selling more...

Define "it", I think I am missing something.

a) The BLS has some statistics that the hourly worker at wal-mart makes about the same as the hourly worker in a mom-and-pop store...which isn't much.lowest wage i started out 18 years ago is still 2 dollars an hour more than starting off at wal-mart pays now +each sales job i have had came with better insurance and at least a 401k
b) Why can't those small businesses be competitive? Wal-Mart once had to compete against Sears, Woolworths, Montgomery-Wards, and a variety of large department stores. Wal-Mart had to compete, why can't they? wal mart buys in mass quanity and stores product in their warehouses. Sears, Wards and so forth were the wal-marts of their day. when large stores file bankruptcy generally they will still probably be around (best buy)

c) The lowest paid make about the same. The owners/managers of the mom-and-pop experience the greatest reduction in wage. Not the 16 year olds.didnt realize econimics just revolved around 16 yr olds

d) Not all Wal-Marts get tax breaks. Some have to pay surcharge taxes because they burden the community with excessive arrests for theft. i would venture to say that those surcharge taxes would be far less than the tax breaks most get. look at it this way would it be worth it to have a new building built just outside of city limits and move there? if they payed so much in extra taxes due to that then they could move as well

when was the last time wal-mart met their profit projections? how well is wal-marts electronics division doing? last i heard they were doing pretty pathetic on the bottom line

what is the only other thing we are comparing? dealers vs unauthorized internet sales.....it = unauthorized internet sales. when unauthorized internet sales lower the "value" of the product they can sell in there retail shop.

+My first job was making $5.25...Wal-Mart pays well above that.

+You were the one whining about small businesses going out of business. Not only did sears buy in mass quantities, they also bought trains and tracks...that like Wal-Mart buying a road or something

+Who is the big loser then? Only the managers and owners of small businesses...the one who should have the strategic capacity to compete.

I don't ever recall these "profit projections" being analyzed. I'll assume you mean earnings estimates. And I'll find the answer to both here shortly.

+ Moving outside the city limits is very very common. Moving outside the city limits to avoid excessive taxes is a good move.

How would an unauthorized internet sale lower the value of what they sell in their shops? I would think they are knowingly undercutting the products they sell in the shops by selling on the internet. Kinda like cutting their own throat...but if they make more money that way, they will continue.

Product on the shelf gets dusty while product in the warehouse moves, so to speak.

those who made over 20k working in small bussiness as a salesman in an electronics store i made more than a manager at bby-

dirty move as the people who live in that area paid the taxes and the sewage and now have buildings that will probably need tore down lol

just answered what matters:laugh: what took out the large stores like wards in the 70's? ...

if people see they can get a w7 for 495 online causing the shop not to beable to get their normal price...

Wal-Mart has not been reaching their targets because they have been trying to expand too quickly. They are still very, very profitable and successful...just not where they want to be.

Get Google out for a bit and read up on the successes of Wal-Mart. There are a lot of them...and one is a boost in economy for many communities.

written by someone paid by wal-mart i bet //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Well $495 is a good price for that sub.

Earlier you mentioned shopping the stores and then going online to make the purchase.

If I were to buy from a B&M I would be doing just the opposite. Almost everything I know about the W7 has been learned online. There would really be nothing left to do but hand over the money. Since I am familiar with people here who build boxes, I would have one of the members do that for me rather than take a chance with a box from the store.

I see no reason why I should fork over another $400 to the retailer.

Yes, the B&Ms lose. In competition, sometimes there are losers.

how many law suits is wal-mart in over worker rights? have they lost any?
Many. I don't know of an entity that large that doesn't have a problem with workers rights.

Exactly...and when it comes to home audio I trust the audiojunkies blog 10x more than any retailer. The few I have been to like to use adjectives I don't understand. I might have $2k in my wallet, but if you try to baffle me, then get conscious and leave. You explain it in layman's terms and listen to what I am describing I want, tell me how you product meets those goals, and you have a sale. Everytime I try to look at the Klipshe stuff, some fool strolls by telling me all these words I do not know.
