If JL is good but overpriced, at what price point should they be?

I am still curious on how the lack of B&M will increase the price on the internet....that is something I just don't get. It hasn't happened in any other industry, why this one? I am not trying to be antagonistic anymore, I am trying to learn something.

Just for the record, JL Audio received an award for their work fighting transshippers. They do actually work hard to stop transshipped/black/grey market items from being sold.
Was this award an electric leg lamp? Seriously though, do you know who gave the award? I am not questioning you or your veracity, but I am skeptical in general. I have never said that i know for certain which manufacturers are willful participants in "unauthorized" internet sales, only that the I don't see how the possibility of such involvement can be excluded.

I wonder what efforts JL made to receive their award?

They got it from MERA USA (Mobile Enhancement Retailers Association). You can call JL Audio and ask specifically what they do.

Nah, it was more just passing curiosity than anything else. If they are actually trying itheir efforts do not seem to be extraordinarily effective. Almost any of their products are available on the internet on any day of the year.

it's pretty simple. if a company does a run of 5 million of a product do you think each piece costs less than to say they do a run of 100k?

with less outlets buying mass quanity said manufacturer will produce less and charge more per unit.

OR

mr internet retailer will have to buy so much product per order that he/she will have to have a real warehouse to store a few million dollars worth of product from each manufacturer

Besides the "if B&Ms go the way of the dinosaur, the price will increase" argument and 'warranties' (because there is no guarentee it will be covered anyway), still find no reason to buy retail. Internet pricing allows me to participate in car audio with my budget, otherwise I couldn't.

more people would quit/never get into car audio when they simply cant go to a local shop

It depends on fixed and variable costs. The fixed cost of a machine able to produce 5MM of a product is considerably greater than that of a machine about to product 100k. Therefore, it is possible that the average cost of the product could be higher with the 5MM run vs. the 100k run. But, as a rule of thumb, the average cost of the 5MM will be lower...

What do you mean by less outlets? Meaning less people, less players, less retail shops?

This leads me to my next question...the average B&M in my area carries only the display and orders the product so they essentially carry no inventory....maybe a few $99 special HUs, installation materials, a few subs...but not much at all. I wonder how much the average internet vendor buys...many, few (I have no idea)

Furthermore, say I am ABC Manufacturing company. I do not see the difference in selling 10 units of x-product to retail stores A-E vs. selling 50 units of x-product to online vendor F? Are you suggesting that without B&Ms the 'total consumption' of car audio will be lower? Perhaps, I guess I could buy that argument.

I am not sure. With the ever increasing acceptance of online purchases and not necessarily having to see before you buy, I am not so sure. For instance, I purchased diamond earrings for my girlfriend (which is harder than car audio due to being a heterogeneous product) with positive results. I based my purchase on reviews of the company, return policy, etc.
