IDQ10 installed, FINALLY

I don't need one of these
So I've had this IDQ10 sitting on the floor for months, while I've been driving around sub-less listening to mostly AM radio. So the other day I bought a 10" box from Mike Dressure (Thanks!) and dropped the sub in. It looks very nice, mostly because I didn't build the box //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif..

Anyways I just installed it and went for a quick drive and WOW. I'm in love. The IDQ easily smacks my twin TC2+ system. The TC2's where 12", had 3x the space and 1000w from the belle and where much louder. However the IDQ brings me back to my IDW system in clarity and responsiveness.

Once again the little 10 is lacking output in comparison but it blends with my front stage SOOO much better. Before the TC2+'s and to some degree the IDW's over powered my mids and made it sound a little muddy. Sure the TC2's where great for pounding my ears with bass tracks but they can't even touch this little IDQ10 for other material.

Anywho, I'm lovin' this little sub. F*CK SPL, yay SQ! I can finally rest with my system and ENJOY it rather than changing it every 6 weeks.

do u think you'd be a little happier with 2 10" IDQ's?
no.....

I don't need any more output and my 5ch amp isn't going to power two properly... plus the small space required is nice...

so no, not even if it was free.... I'm really very happy with the output, it's nice to have the mids able to outshine the sub.. it just sounds better to me than a bass heavy system, of which I have had many.

how big is your box and how many watts are u feeding it? how does it sound between 50 - 30Hz or can't you really tell?
box is somewhere between .6 and .75 cu feet. It has a slanted front and I didn't buy/built it originally so I don't know it's exact size though I think it's closer to .75. The Next Q.55 feeds around 200w to it at 4ohms.

It sounds very good down low. It has a similar sound to the IDW's in that range. The big difference is that you could feel the IDW's (twin 15" subs, 800w) pressurizing the cabin at barely audible levels where with the IDQ10 you don't feel it, you just hear it. I cross it over at 63hz and it handles everything down low very well, handing off to the dayton's in a more or less seemless manner. I only tuned it for about 5 minutes so I know I can dial it in a little better but I'm really enjoying it.

well im glad your satisfied with the enclosure, sounds like your pretty happy. ill be finishing my enclosure tommorow. what 5 channel are using to power your system
Yah, the enclosure works quite well. I kinda like having the system Q lower than .7 (IDW's where critically damped). The bass is very smooth and sounds best crossed over at 63 hz....

The 5 channel is a Next q.55, 4x75 + 1x200 w at 14v which isn't a problem since at full tilt it doesn't even dim my panel lights. That's a nice change after having the big memphis belle kicking my alty's ***...

1. i'd think that this would be ideal

2.) u mean ur satisfied with this? i thought SQ meant more of feeling it than hearing so much so that you hear your mids more.

well they both sound similar down around 30hz (close to the lower limit of your hearing) but the IDW's rattled your eyeballs and pressurized your inner ear. This was definitely high on the "cool" factor but it didn't detract or help the SQ.

I'm not really looking for high output so the IDQ works just fine for me. So in response to #2 yes, I am satisfied. Besides, my mids (along with most other mids) are crossed over at 63hz or higher so in the 30-50hz range it's all sub. I'm very happy with how well the IDQ and the Dayton's meet at 63 hz. The slope of the dayton's is very steep (24db) while I have the IDQ falling off a little more lazily. I didn't have time to really tune the whole system but this sounded good with the quick tuning I did.

As for #1 yes it is ideal if you are looking for output. The IDW's really shined at 50hz and lower. They extended deeper than any sub I've had yet. This is probably due to their stellar design and the fact that they where critically damped (basically installed in IB)

BTW: IDW's are considered some of the best car audio subs ever made (for SQ). They are quite rare and go for $400 a pair even though they are 10 years old. So a comparing them to IDW's is saying alot about the IDQ's sq.

as much good that you speak of this idq i may have to try one for myself. i think i would port mine though. and tune it real low. i seem to like the sound of a ported woofer tuned low in a large enclosure. it is nice to have the extra space though. let me know how much better it get's after you tune it in completely

I'll drop in again and say something.. I'll prob have some time tomorrow to tune it up. I haven't listened to many ported subs but I really like sealed subs with low Q's so far... All the drivers I've had at a q of .7 sound punchy to me... and the TC2+'s didn't get low enough and distorted a tad too much for my tastes....

I think I'm becoming an Image Dynamics fan //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

not a thing wrong with that. id like to get my hands on an idmax. just to expirament. ive heard great things
Me too... but I'm in no hurry... I want to keep this system in my 4Runner until I sell it. I'll prob get a sedan next time and I think I'll give 2x IDQ12's or 2x IDMAX's in IB a shot.

I run 2 IDQ12's sealed in right now in a Firebird, its really secky.Had an IDMax12 in a sealed before too, the low is unbelivable. Both my IDMax's r sitting in my room waiting for me to get money for a recone //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif :crying: //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif . Than I'm planning the IB setup with them

got the idea from this guy
