Ideas on 8ohm sub for home..

Nothing Is Promised
So I just got a new mini home theater system. The 6.5" "sub" it came with does alright (kinda surprised me so far). It's passive so I just would have to build a new enclosure with new sub(s).

Any ideas? The amp gives off ~100W at 8ohm so like (2) 6.5" or (1) 8" or something would be nice tuned low. Let me know. Thanks.

Posted a response to this yesterday, but don't see it now???

I'd ditch what you have and start from scratch. Look at partsexpress for a plate amp. Plenty of budget subs out there that would work and I'd build bigger than an 8". Never know when you'll be moving it into a bigger room, so I'd do a 12" or 15" and be done with it.

well the thing is the little mini theater system my parents got me for my bday doesn't have a preout for the sub. Sure, I could run the speaker level route but I'd prefer the preout. So I just want to run something off the ~100W 8ohm amp.

With that power you would be best off going with a transmission line, you wont even need the full 100 to get it going well...

I recently build a transmission line for a single shielded dayton 8, the enclosure is huge, but it only needs around 25 rms to reach full potential, with 104 db response before room gain from 23hz-50....with room gain likely over 110 decibels. TLs for the win...too bad its not a perfect science...
