Hey sup guys. I'm in need for a new setup and alot of ideas have been running through my mind. I have always been keen to do a IB setup but never gave it any attention. How many have done it here and came out with positive results? How much more better sounding is it compared to regular box setups? What is the ideal size for the sub selection? How much effort is needed? Also, I've seen people do it behidn the seat and some do it on the rear deck. Which one is the ideal way to go? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Are you on Maxima.org? Theres quite a few people that have done IB setups in there Maxima of the gen and have been very happy. I would check out the AV section of that forum. If you have already seen that, Im sure others will chime in as to the pros/cons.

What is the difference between IB'ing the sub behind the seat vs. rear deck? Rear deck way too much work and modding in order to fit 2 12's or 15's.

Where in NJ are you? If you wanna hear my IB setup you're welcome to. 2 Assassins in the rear deck.

Cons of IB - Power handling goes down. The low end extension will not be the same as compared to a boxed setup.

Pros - Save trunk space, have good solid bass response better than the OE equipment.

I would suggest you take a listen to as many IB setups as you can find before you go into putting one in. The rear deck is really the best place IMO to mount IB subs because of the plain fact that with the seats up you still get great bass response into the cabin. With the seats up in a back seat application you MAY not get much if any bass response out of the setup.

As far as size, I'm running 8's in the rear deck, and I also have a 12inch ported box in the trunk, I can switch between the to very quickly. The 8's will probably be pulled out soon and sold so let me know if you want to hear them sometime.

I can't lie at times I want to just stay with the 8's, theydo sound really really good. But the 12 doesn't do anything but put a smile on my face everytime I hear it.

Cons of IB, like said before power handling will go down, but you will actually be able to hit lower if you properly eq the setup because you can safely go down to the woofers fs. Also, they are quite hard to setup because you have to seal the front of the woofer off from the back of the woofer. This takes a lot of time and effort. The other con is you usually need quite a bit of surface area for it to get loud, because the efficiency of an IB setup isn't as good as sealed or ported boxes.

pros-You do save trunk space, it sounds amazing, you don't have to worry as much about backwave distortion. Your transcience is almost perfect depending if you choose the proper woofer.

Have you looked into an aperiodic setup? That is what I'm running and it helps with the power handling con, and pretty much eliminates backwave distortion. Read about it here: http://www.elitecaraudio.com/article.php?sid=18

I want to do as least modding to the car so AP might be out of the question //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif.

Nismo, what type of setup do you have with the box in the trunk? Which woofer? Does the sound of it stand up to the quality of the Ib setup you have?

Ideally you want a sub that has a QTS of .45 or higher. DLS makes a IB capable sub. The Fi Car Audio Q Series looks capable. I would just look around for other woofers that have those high QTS numbers.

They way I have mine, is that they (two twelves) are mounted to the hole directly behind the rear seats.

I'd do an IDMAX, well known for being an amazing driver period, but it supposedly shines IB. A SQ competitor actually hit the 130 decibel limit while SEARCHING for his spl tone, with 1 12". I think, he said, don't quote me, he was in the mid to upper 130's at the lower 30hz region.

Many of the most loved IB subs have Qts lower than .45; IDmax, IDW and IDQ just from one single manufacturer. All three are well known for performing extremely well IB, none of which have a Qts above .35

Really, if you have good equalization in the subbass region you can run darn near any sub you want IB and just EQ the response to your taste; though I would avoid obsurdly high Qts subs.

If you don't have access to a flexible EQ in the sub section, then you need to find a sub with a Qts/Fs that suites your listening tastes and needs.

And as was mentioned; The more displacement the better. Big sub w/ good excursion is ideal.

best bang for the buck ib woofers i know of are idq 15's best overall are the idw but those are hard to find 600 watts at the given ohm load (4 or 1) and you sould be golden i wouldnt go over 1000....i went from 8 ohm idws to 4 ohm and i was able to mechanically bottom out the sub easily which isnt good.
