IB 10" Subs?...

<-- Yes, that's me.
Note: Not looking to purchase anything right now, I'm getting idea of how much to save up. Probably be a while before I buy anything. I'll obviously have to fill out my front stage before it.

Anyways. Currently running a single 10" infinity sub, IB style, in my car. The car, which will probably stick with me for quite a while, does not have room for anything more than 10's, though I could go up to 3 possibly.

I'm trying to get an idea of what subs are suitable for an IB setup here. Fi has IB subs, but the smallest size is a 12", which is too big.

I was thinking of the Audiopulse line, a couple Revo 10's, to run in the back. The low resonant frequency (comparatively for 10's, at least) should mean they're fairly suitable for IB, I would assume? (I would love to tear out the rear seats and do an LMS-Ultra IB style, but I'd have to chop some large holes in the trunk for it's Vas -.-).

Other recs would be taken - I don't know what subs are suitable for IB, that are fairly high powered.

Usually with IB, if you can acquire a driver close to 0.7 Qts it will give you a flat response down to Fs, as Qts=Qtc. Make sure you look for a driver with good throw as you will need it.

You can get drivers with lower Qts for IB that work reasonably well, but may seem dry sounding and weak.

Hah. Out of all of what partsexpress has... The Audiopulse takes the top in those categories by far. Specs are different than Audiopulse's main site - better. Beefy little thing too o_O Qts of .57, Fs of 20hz, 26mm xmax. Probably end up going with one of them then. SAZ 1500D sounds good for it. Means I'll need to save up about a grand for the match, unless I find someone selling me them cheaper. The D2 options means I'd probably only run a single one. Probably be enough, too.

The sub I'm currently running has a Qts of .42, and sounds pretty good as is. I have yet to find drivers with better specs than the audiopulse drivers for my wants, so my current plans will be for them. Still, other options almost certainly exist.

Check out pretty much all of the ID subs and DLS subs...
ID don't have the power ratings I'm looking for - I don't know on the DLS subs, however. Where can I take a look at them?

Ah, IDMAX does have more the power I'm looking at. Can't find full specs on them though :/

Sounds like decent specs. I could probably put together an IB specific driver for you, but if the Audiopulse units are priced decent, then go for those.

Not exactly cheap, but I've seen people around selling them for $300-350, quite a bit cheaper than the listed price there. I've heard good things on them.

It'd be easier if I had a larger rear deck. Or were willing to lose the rear seats. But, can't do that -.-

Also, is it extremely difficult to build a driver? Out of curiosity. What kind of background knowledge do you need?

I'm sorry, you can acquire good quality drivers for cheaper than that.... mind you... for $350 each I can make up a kick-*** IB driver for you //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

Haha. Would it be able to handle higher power? I'm looking for about 1500 RMS, probably - but mind, I'm definitely not looking for a new sub now. Funds are low, this is future plans for when I have more control over my money.

Then, it's time to start saving up a bit... ^^ See if I can knab a good amp off of craigslist or ebay at some point, and get it going.

I'll definitely go for a custom subwoofer - but it'll at least be 6-8 months, possibly longer, before I start looking for the actual purchase. So... Don't go make one now. ^^ Unless I get some other good options here though then, I'll see about getting in contact with you in the future ^^

I don't think it'd be possible for me to go back to the sound of a ported or even a sealed enclosure... The IB blends so perfectly with music o_O Was a pain in the @ss to deaden though -.-
