IA DP Arrives for testing ( Mucho Pics )

Full Review:

Listening Test

This subwoofer is definately a beast, however it is not a pure spl sub. The amount of cone control this driver has is amazing. Testing in a 2 cube sealed box and in a 2.7 cube ported box ( 1 6inch aero tuned to 35 hz ) yeilded some interesting results. The sealed box lacked output, no worse than any other driver I have used, but it did help the low end of the driver a bit.

Ported is where you should run this driver, as it is a monster. The 2.7 cube box i believe was a decent match with this driver for daily use b/c the smaller SPL box made the sub peak like a bish. I was able to bassrace a 139.9 with ease with this driver in the ported box. As I stated earlier the cone control is amazing. The driver has no problem reproducing anything thrown at it. I wouldn't call it a SQ driver, but it definately could find a home in many daily driver setups.

SPL Test

Ok as some of you have seen my RMS and slightly above results this driver doesnt need a ton of power to get moving. However pushing it above rms is something one could do with ease //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

hows it compare to a btl spl wise???

As I just told nick it is hard to do a direct SPL comparison as I dont have the same vehicle or the btl to test with. My testing of going from the CRX @ the headrest to the dash of the 4runner has shown about a 2db gain with this setup, it has varied with certain drivers 1.3-2.5, so its rather difficult to get a direct comparison.

However with the SPL im pretty sure its within .5 db for the 2 @ 6kw. To be honest with these 2 drivers its pretty close to a coin flip between a fully loaded BTL and a DP. The fully loaded BTL has a longer coil ( about 1/2" ) which yields a bit more thermal handling capacity, but the DP doesnt suffer some of the downfalls that the BTL has, like the lead slap. And to be honest I think the DP sounds a bit better.

So that chart....is a 62hz tone, in the SPL box or the 2.7ft ported?

SPL box sealed on the dash.

Same box used here, but in my CRX measured at the headrest. And if you read my post above there is some adjusting to do when trying to compare the 2 results

148 with one 12..nicce
Crap, and that was in a 4-runner right?
Sealed on the dash, toyota 4 runner, rear seats folded, in accordance with the dbdrag street A rules. I could have made this driver louder, as it needs to be in a slightly larger ported box, but then it wouldnt be a fair comparison.

There is still much more info i have to post, I have to go to a meeting @ 8 tho, so im gonna wait til after i come back
