I've been into car audio for about a year now and want my own audio system in my vehicle. I was near the mall the other night when I got off work and decided to stop by and check it out. As soon as I walk in I'm greeted and asked if I needed help. I replied; "Yeah, I'm wanting an audio system for my car, and wanting to look at a few things" we walk into the audio showroom and I automatically see:

JL Audio 12W7 $599.99

JL Audio 1000/1 $999.99

On that note I buy the cable for my HT I was looking for and walk out. I'm not dead set on JL Audio, I've never heard any of it let alone any other type of car audio system from the inside of the vehicle. I'm just wondering why it's so highly priced. After searching on here I see some hate it.. some love it.. and that you can get better for the money... I'm glad I read up on here before purchasing anything.

I could buy the stuff from tweeter but those prices are ridiculous.

I want a more SPL oriented setup, but one that can still sound good daily when I'm not at a comp. Here's some of the equipment I am looking into:

Amp: Sundown 3000D

Comps: ?

Subs: IA Death Penalty 12"

Mach 5 Audio SPL 12"

Thanks to lilmaniac2 for the great reviews on the woofers.

Lastly I was looking around on the Audiopulse website and I'm interested in those also the LMS 15" Since it can take

I understand I will need an HO Alt, the big 3, batts and some good wiring. Any feedback from you guys is greatly appreciated, I hope I made a decent entry as a noob. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

jl audio is overpriced and there are so many other products out there that do just as good or better for half the cost. I would go with AQ products for subs and the sundown is good the price is up there but you won't be dissapointed in what you get. go with knuconceptz for wiring. I would sound deaden too using fatmat or second skin products.

Thanks for the reply, yeah lots of options and the AQ HDC3's are nice.. and from what I've seen on here from vids and such they look like a great driver and that is a great price on them.

Wow man. First off, this single thread may have saved face for the entire 08'ers population.

You researched, searched here and then gave thoughts as to where you were at. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/clap.gif.178cba2c538c68e720c727fcb024b19c.gif

That being said, JL audio makes well designed equipment. They put large amounts of money into marketing and R&D. This shows in the final price and you do pay a premium for it. (look at the JL audio Fathium (sp?) home audio sub line, they are ranked as a class A in stereophile).

As stated above, there are plenty of online solutions who make terrific equipment for a much cheaper price. Sundown makes ultra high quality equipment for a great price (imo).

For subs, I think you have some really nice picks there. People will mention Fi audio (http://www.ficaraudio.com), Stereo Integrity. Hell, there are a dozen options in subs.

Comps - Going on the boner here but PG RSD's are fantastic. I'm running them with around 130rms and they sound great. Rainbow, MB Quart, Focal, Boston Pro's all great speakers.

Have you thought about what cd player, what type of comp amp etc?

If you want an "SPL oriented" setup, just forget about JL and save yourself the trouble and the money. JL isn't loud and since loud is what 99% of the people on here who whine about JL prices care about you'll hear a lot of "there's better for less money." For your situation, there are lots that are better for less money.

Unless you are planning some serious electrical upgrades, I would go with the Sundown SAZ-1500d instead of the 3000D. Tons of good online brands of subs that will get loud and are tolerable to listen to.

Personally I would not buy from tweeter they have some dumb salesmen only trying to get a commision..anything you see on the floor I would buy from ebay or a wholesale website and save tons..here is a link that 1000/1 they are chargin 999$ for is going for 600$ brand new on ebay.

Yeah but you get no warranty, so you get what you pay for. If you know all about car audio, and know how to install it yourself then yes buy everything online.

I would never buy retail prices, because 1. Im cheap, and 2. I know how to install things myself. Im no expert, but I would never pay $1000 for a 1000/1. I would never pay $600 for a 1000/1. Much better amps can be had for less.

actually that is not true, I buy online from ebay and have gotten warrantys. also if you look at the link i gave scroll down and look on the left hand side it talks about warrantys..these are just smaller companys so they give warranty but if you were to buy from a person no you wouldnt get a warranty lol
