Ported is louder- WHEN DONE PROPERLY!

If you stick a tube in a sealed box you aren't going to always get the best result. YOu have to consider waht you are doing.

I guess as a general rule, the more SPL you want is the higher you tune your box to the resonant or nominal (i dunno //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif) freq of the woofer . Howevwer, the more listening value you want (more important than you may think) the lower (down to 20 to 18htz) you may tune. THe lowest I have heard is 28htz though.

BTW, If I don;t get corrected on this, this forum has gone to hell, LOL.

What is your situation, waht are you working with???

oh yeah by the way if im gion to have a ported box it cant be larger than 1.5cu.ft cause i really dont want to take up my whole trunk and the port would be set at the rec. 40hz for the sub.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif by the thank u very much for the help

so even if i had a rec. sealed box compared to a NON rec ported box set at rec. 4 hz. the ported box will still be louder. lol that was a mouth full. thx for the comments everybody

Amen.

You also have to consider that most ported enclosure will only benefit the frequency around the tuning freq. You can have a box tuned to 40hz and it'll sound loud around there, but once you go down to 25hz or whatever, I'm sure the Sealed enclosure has no trouble keeping up.

A ported box will usually roll-off earlier (one or the other) than a sealed box.

So really, we can't say ported will always be louder because if we were to consider the whole bandwidth, we'll realize only certain frequency will be louder.
