I am glad you have a lawyer. You have been injured and suffered trauma...in insurance parlance that is worth $$$. Ask your lawyer lots of questions and write them down, as well as the answers, in a notebook. Do not be afraid of having the notebook out and making notations when talking to him or anyone else involved...doctors, etc...Make sure you write down the date and time of the conversation as well as if in person, over the phone, etc.
This case could take 3 years to close. That was how long mine took. I had a crushed L1 vertebrae as well as nerve damage and soft tissue damage. All said and done I got a check for $25K...lawyer took 1/3 plus expenses...your storage fee is an expense...and the cost of the medical expenses.
Take care of yourself, answer no questions to anyone, especially how you are feeling...you always feel lousy, unless your lawyer tells you to and refer all questions to him...that is what he is getting 1/3 of your money for so don't hesitate to use him, after all you are paying him.
I live in NY too and have coverage for injuries incurred in an accident resulting in loss of work. Check your policy carefully...even give a copy to your lawyer...you never know.
Take care of yourself...you can always buy a car and earn money but a f'ed up body is a lifetime of pain.
