i have a 2001 chevy s10 extended cab pickup. i am wondering what setup would sound best. i also want to b heard coming from at least a block away. here r ma options:

1.2 JL AUDIO W6V2 12" SUBS AND 1 JL AUDIO 1000/1 AMP

2.1 JL AUDIO W7 13.5" SUB AND 1 JL AUDIO 1000/1 AMP

these will b goin in a ported box at factory specs. i want sound quality so im stuck on JL so which setup do u think is best? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

If you want to be heard a block away....well you will have to scarifice SQ to acheive that goal. What really you want is an SPL-based system, with SQ capabilities. I have to ask, why are you stick on JL subs and amps?

There is much much better for the same amount or less money. If you are buying just because it has a JL logo on it, then you really have a lot to learn.

Honestly, JL Audio sucks in my opinion for the following reasons; for its cost, their amps are power hungry battery-drainers, the products are ugly, did I mention they are outrageously expensive?

If you would like to build a system that can be heard from 2 or more blocks away, are willing to give up your JL fascination, and want to do it for half the cost, with better SPL and SQ than JL, then let me know...

There are cheaper alternatives but do not let anyone tell you that the W7's will not get loud. I have had RE's and JL's and L7's. The 13.5 W7 with 32mm of xmax at 1000watts is very efficient and very loud and will sound very good while doing it. The only reason "JL" gets a bad rap is because they are more expensive than most brands. This type of steup will cost you around $1500 give or take.

why spend all that money on a sub just so it can get loud and sound like crap doing it? get you some l7's or something if all you want is loud they are about 1/2 the price of the w7's

now talking loud and sq i would look at some Re subs (never heard them but they get good play here) adire tempest, brahamas, even the jl 12w3's get loud and sound pretty good i got 2 in my sons jeep with only 360 watts and they get plenty loud..enough ot distort your vision... it's all in the box and install

Got your PM, basically what OLD SCHOOL reccomended, is what I would have recomended. The RE XXX/SE series, Adire Audio Brahma, also look at Digital Designs, Stereo Integrity Magnum, Treo SS, even the Kicker Solobaric L7s.

Any of those in the right ported box, with the right amount of power, will beat a JL W7 in SPL, and will match, if not beat SQ, and do it at half the cost.

For the most part, yes, it is the install that matters even more than the equipment. I just hate seeing people throw money away just on a brand name. To be honest with you, most real car audio enthusiasts care more about how it sounds, than what brands you are repping, style, etc.

18" XXX or SX. With that same amp you could run a SX and it would get really loud. It would cost you about 700 less which means you could run 2 of them maybe. That, i guarantee would be heard from blocks away. Maybe 2 15" SX's with 2 1000 watt amps. Talk about loud!

Your right, nobody said that in this thread but it is something that I have seen many times on these sites. There are a few people that think that you cannot have great SQ and SPL at the same time. I think that the W7, XXX, Brahma etc have proved that theory wrong.
