None of you are right.

The extra dollar is in the register. You cant divide $1.00 by 3 evenly. This is the invisible hand at work in our money system. Adam Smith, the economist wrote about this. Google him and you'll understand this even more so.

Get 30 pennies or coins out and count 9 in three different places for the guys in the room and 2 for the bell boy. You have one left over. It's in the register.

That coin is amongst the mix, but REALLY in the resister since the hotel is the one that got paid to begin with. You can't divide $1 evenly (.33333333333333). That's where it is.

I have missed a few questions myself, so I asked a co-worker to call thier kid's teacher and see if they teach those things in school and they did not.

If you look at the example problem 27+2 should be nowhere in the equation. It isnt even relative.

their is 3 guys that needed to rent a hotel room. the hotel was $30. the bell boy took them up to their room and found out that their was a discount,the room was only $25 so they were going to get $5 back. well the bell boy got $2 as a tip and each one got back a dollar so 2 +3=5. but when i do the math each one payed $9 ..9x3= 27 so 27+2=29 (2 for tip) what happened to the other dollar

okay here we go.

easy answer is that the "guys" did their math wrong. they didn't spend $29 they spent $27.

person A spends $10

person B spends $10

person C spends $10

 

they find out the room cost $25 so they are refunded the $5. $5 can't be divided by three and get even change back so each person took $1 from that $5 fund. that means each person paid $9

 

9x3=27 $25 dollars for the room and $2 dollars for the tip = $27 dollars spent not $29. the other $3 dollars needed to make that number $30 is the $3 dollars that was refunded back to them. end of story. they did not spend an extra $2 they simply just didn't recive that amount back because it went to the bell hops tip. they equation at the presented at the beginning of the question in not acurate
