The Fedex guy came today! He left a big ol' box filled with bubble wrap! Yay! I love bubble wrap! There was an Eclipse subwoofer in it too! WOW! That's a great gift to give away with the purchase of bubble wrap! =)
Show off style full cone dustcap.
Stamped basket. it resonates a little when I tap on it, but for $13 I guess I'll manage. =p
It's pretty small for a 12, in terms of about everything. It weighs in at about 8 lb(~3.5 kg). The motor is small and roughly machined on the outside. The basket is thin and like I said, resonates. The spade terminals, for some reason, are a heavier meterial than any spade terminal I've seen in the past and coated in something gold colored. They almost seem out of place. They work (don't bend, crease, or break) better than any spade terminal I've dealt with in the past.
Tapping on the cone creates a satisfying thud indicating they put some focus where it really counts. Pushing down on the cone to xmax (~3/8" one way) is fairly easy and gives a smooth controlled motion.
I hooked up a Jensen JXP460 (Old pink & purple discontinued model) up to a 3.36 amp 16v power supply, producing about 18-20 watts on a good day. Source was a PC playing rock from 3 Days Grace and Audioslave.
It's transient response is surprisingly well and plays very, VERY high for a woofer. If it didn't have the beaming inherent in a 12 two of these would make some hellish midbass drivers. >=) It had a fairly good amount of output and movement, free air. Efficiency wise I'd say it's slightly less efficient than my
Adire Shiva MK4 and slightly more efficient than my
Incriminator Audio Lethal Injection 12" off ~20 watts.
I won't be able to remark on real life output or efficiency until I get an enclosure built, which I'll start tomorrow, weather permitting. First will be sealed and second will be a Decware Deathbox for a 12". If I'm limited to one because of material I'm going to cannibalize an existing box.
I'll post listening results as they become available.
For now, it goes in to my
collection.
