Hey guys first off id like to say im new and that I know nothing about the car audio world. I have a little problem with my car stereo or speakers. First off ill tell what equipment was in my car. Its a 93 Grand Prix SE Coup. I bought the car awhile ago and already installed in it at purchase was an Alpine CDE-9852 MP3-WMA radio. The speakers that were in there were Alpine Type S SPS-69C3 coaxial 3 way speakers 250 Watt peak 50W 4 Ohms 6"x9" in the back (2 of them) and two matching S type round ones in the doors. When I bought the car I was told that the speakers were blown, so whenever I turned the volume up past 22 the radio would shutoff and then turn back on with the volume on zero so I had to have the radio on 0 bass and below 22 volume setting. I finally decided to buy some new speakers at BestBuy. I got the sony Xplod 6"x9" 60W rated power 3 way speakers for the back, but didnt get to buy the speakers for the doors figuring they were still fine. So I take out the old Alpine 6x9's in the back and install the Sonys, turn up the radio to 30 and it instantly shuts off again so the next step in my mind is taking off the door panels and detaching the side door speakers, figuring they were blown as well. So I finally get both door panels off and detach the speakers in the sidedoors, leaving the 6x9's in the back attached. I turned up the radio above 25 and guess what? It died on me again..//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rage.gif.0ad8a6e5565b5fddce406566fdd05149.gif So now im made to believe that the radio was at fault the entire time, and I never needed speakers to begin with. Is there any way to fix the radio? I really like the look of it and dont want to get another one if I dont have to. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Pinched speaker wire.. what would i have to do to get to those? Arent most of them not visible? Sorry I seem like such an idiot on all this, but I kind of am lol.

what he means is that one of your speaker wires is shorting out. this may be at the speaker itself, behind the head unit, or along the speaker wire run. all it take is a single wire strand to cause this problem. most likely, your speakers are fine (and Alpine is much better than Sony, i'd put the Alpine's back in).

What you need to do is pay an installer to diagnose the system. you do not have the skills, knowlege, or tools to do it properly. you won't even know where to look.

we can teach you, but you have to be patient, and willing to do a lot of reading and research to understand electrical terms and concepts. you also need to buy a digital multi-meter (DMM) and learn how to use it to measure voltage and resistance.

for starters, you need to remove the head unit and inspect the wiring harness installation. if you want, just take a picture of it (non-blurry please) and show us. we can tell you if the methods are poor. next, take pictures of the speaker wiring connections at the speaker.

if you see any bare copper wire - the connections are bad.
