I have a couple of options...what would YOU do?

I recently installed a Kenwood DDX-514 in my 2006 F-150 extended cad and now I want to do the whole system! I have been searching and browsing this site for a good 3 weeks now and I've come up with a few possibilities....

Option 1:

Front Stage: Hertz HSK 165

Rear Fill: Hertz HCX 570

Subwoofer: JL Stealth Box

Amplifier: Alpine PDX-5

Option 2:

Front Stage: Hertz HSK 165

Rear Fill: None

Subwoofer: 2 JL 10W0v2 in a box

Amplifier: JL Audio HD 600/6

(Front channels 150x2 for the front Rear Bridged to Sub 300x1)

Option 3:

Front Stage: Boston Acoustics Pro 60SE

Rear Fill: None

Subwoofer: JL Audio 13TW5

Amplifier JL Audio 300/4

(Front channels 150x2 for the front Rear Bridged to Sub 300x1)

Keep in mind that I don't really want to mail order anything and the 2 shops that I'd use sells JL Audio, Alpine, Boston, Hertz, Audison, Kenwood, and MB Quart.

I'd like to stay under $1-2K.

I am open to suggestion using the brands that I listed....so what would you do?

I know there is better, but I know with the stealth box its going to sound good. I know its pricey, but its engineered for the truck. The problem with the subwoofer part is under the seat is the only real spot. Most pre-fab boxes ****. If I have the shop build me a box for 2 10"s it will end up being more then the stealth box.

As for what I'm looking for....Its kind of SQL. I love rock and metal, but I'll put on some rap and hip hop from time to time. I'm not looking for 160dbs, just good solid bass.

Did you know by ordering the same equipment online you could get the same equipment for 500 that youd end up spending 2000 on at a shop? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
What if the shop is giving you great deals.....like $400 for both sets of Hertz!

Any reason why your so set on JL? There are better /cheaper out there
Argh, spoken like a true ca.com, anti JL Audio, lemming:rolleyes: Define "better for less" while keeping in mind that the OP appears to want SQ AND wants to support his local shop.

But back to the topic at hand... It would be a tough call between the PDX and JL amplifiers. If you are going with additional processing beyond your HU's 3-Band parametric equalizer, then the choice even gets tougher. Without additional EQ, I would stay away from the Alpine PDX because to me they are flatter than flat in the midbass output reproduction area, unless that is what you are after.

I'm looking for good all-around sound. I had JL XR 6.5 comps in my Acura CL and thought they sounded great, so if these Hertz are as good as everyone says, I should be more then happy. Since what I mostly listen to is rock/metal, I gues mid bass is important, but its not like I'm going to compete in a SQ competition...I just like good natural sound.

As for the sub...I'm really kind of limited in what I can do. The seat is 7" off of the ground with a tran hump in the middle. There are pre-fab boxes out there, but they all use 5/8" MDF and they are $125-300....then add a sub(s) and you're getting into stealthbox territory price wise.

get a great processor, ditch these choices and get some great home drivers for 1/3 the price. go active with as much power as you can find. ditchthe rears...do some resarch. SQL is probably harder to pull off than SQ if there was such a thing. Both are harder to pull off thanSPL and the difference starts with control and ends with driver choice and proper installation.

Passive crossovers are often...for the house. Why power them in the car instead of the speakers?

You have got to be kidding. Just judging by his questions do you seriously expect him to build a diy active system this century?

I know what active means and I know that Datyon and Peerless are nice for the car and not that expensive, BUT I don't know how I'd do that and I really have no desire to get crazy into tuning. I just want good sound.
