HT box design *image

I'm finally building my HT sub, and I'm curious as to how to finish the box. I'll be using an Eclipse SW8200 (S4 coil) powered by a Bash 500W amp. For those unfamiliar with this sub, it was built by TC using an LMS wrapped voice coil, and is capable of getting very low and staying linear //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I was thinking about doing a veneer finish on the front of the box, and carpeting the rest. This got me thinking about whether or not you want the sub to be solidly 'attached' to the floor, and how that will affect the response of the sub.

I am not looking for a lot of output here, just to be very linear. My plan is to build a 3 cube net sealed enclosure.

Discuss.

Yea I was just showing that I will not be doing a down firing enclosure.

I am curious as to whether or not you want the sub to be "attached" to the floor. I've seen subs with spikes and such.

Do a big ported box tuned to 22-26hz...if you want it for movies and such. Otherwise you will not get a flat'ish response below 30-35hz.

What size is the sub? If it's a 12" go for ~4ft^3, if it's a 15" go for ~7ft^3 in order to bring out explosions well.

I've had the sub (12") in a 4 cube sealed in my Jeep, and it flexed the roof quite a bit @ 20hz. It doesn't have a problem getting low in sealed, and doesn't like ported.

The low end output is augmented when the system is inside a vehicle. In the house you will not play nearly as loud at 20hz. If you want house shaking LFE for movies, I would go ported. For most music, sealed should work fine.
