How to start on modifying door for 6x9's?

If you want bass then why not just add a 12" sub? A good set of 5 1/4" components plus a decent 12" sub would be pretty nice.

I helped a buddy to replace all four 6x8s in his 96 Explorer plus a new headunit, but there was still not enough bass to be worth talking about it.
I'm adding 2 12" alpine type r's with a discus soon. Are external crossovers fairly easy to set-up?

it's not worth putting anything more than 5.25's in the doors. unless you plan on putting something like 2 comp sets up front. then you'd be doing all new door panels anyways. get a good comp set. 6.5 will get you a tad more bass but not alot. 6x9 require way too much air than a door can supply. it's a bonniville? doesn't it have 6x9 in the back? goto an audio store and listen to 5.25, 6.5 and 6x9's and see for yourself. comps aren't just about mounting the tweets. but, just by mounting them in different areas in the car can make it more of a surround and filling sound.

Yes, it has 6x9's in the rear deck.
