How to make a 14.4V system

your engine should run @14.4V with the engine running at idle (usually)

and it should be 12.8V with the car on, engine off.

add a yellotop battery and do the Big 3. that'll help stabilize the electrical and get you closer to, if not running at 14v or a lil more

Thank You so far, I guess I was just wondering why Amplifier specs, will give a 12v rating and a 14.4v rating. So to my understanding the 12v rating will be when the car is not running and the 14.4v rating is when the car is running? I am a nub for this stuff. & a vehicle with a stock alt. and standard batt. will put out 14.4v while running.

actually some manufacturers rate their amps at 14.4 (overrated) when a car generally idles at less than 14.4 so it won't do the rated power.

some will rate them at 12.8 (so at 14.4 it'll do a little more power at 14.4)

Not all car charging system run at 14.4v. My Honda stock idle voltage was about 13.8. With upgraded alternator it's now 14.4. Depending on your car, you may be to adjust this voltage.

If you want a true 14.4v system, go buy 2 golf cart batteries, 1 8v and 1 6v. wire them in series, and you will get 14.77v at full charge. You will also get huge reserve capacity that will run your amps for hours.

Of course you will need a 15V+ alt to charge said batteries and run the risk of messing one or both of them up while trying to charge them while wired in series.
