how to invert mount a sub ???

i was assuming that he was inverting both subs. i've always flipped polarity on both and never had any problems with sq.
but about two weeks ago my cousin wanted me to check out his system cause of lack of bass, except when the trunk was open. low low freq. were the only ones that would really play, even though you could see the subs playing all freq.

turns out he hooked the subs up out of phase, not from each other, just in relation to the door/deck speakers. when i changed these, all was fixed. that is what lead me to the cancellation statement.

still not sure why the trunk being open had anything to do with bass response.... anyone?
that makes sense.

With the trunk open that pressure keeping the interior speakers from moving would have been greatly reduced.

You can wire them in or out of phase when you invert them. It is no different than flipping the phase switch on your Class D amp when you have your subwoofers mounted normally.

I know this is an old thread but ....

If you mount one subs invert in a slotported box does this change the volume of the box? I mean a shared chamber slot port box... then that removes the driver displacement and also, say that inverted sub mightt give an illusion of just one sub? seems the volume for the two subs is now the volume for just one? Just curiose how that works.

not enough to matter. Maybe a 2-3% difference in volume depending on woofer/box size. No way you'd hear it.

Why would youhave to wire them different? Dont you just mount them inverted?
If you have a pair and you just flip one w/o changing its phase you'd have one cone moving away from the enclosure when the other moves toward it. The net result is zero. You'd get very little sound.

If you invert one sub in a single sub system and don't adjust the phase it will have the same (I would guess less noticable) effect on the full range speakers.

so subs dont give a **** if you wire them in the box or not? I could have 2 12's buit for the box, and mount them inverted, and it would sound the same?

Tracy from Kicker said the only time you have to wire them out of phase is when you mount subs isobarically, so i dont think you need to wire it out of phase....
1 sub invert mounted in a box that has 2 subs using a common chamber is isobaric.
