How to Hook Up Multiple Batterys Questions?

a yes im new to adding extra batterys and i was just wondering how it all works ok if i say for instance i want to add 2 Deep Cycle Batterys to the back and one yellow top for the front, now do you just run 1 power wire from the positive front battery to one of the back deep cycle positives then jump a positive from that battery to the other positive on the 2nd deep cycle battery then from that positive run a power wire to the AMP? then same for a negative run from the Front Battery to the back batterys negative then run a negative to the amp, then ground the batterys off the negative? also do you have to add a resitor to the power run off the front battery to keep the backs charged and from draining or something like that? is that how adding batterys works, and they will hold a charge will the truck is running? thanks
