how to get different volts from your system

Total newb questions. I keep seeing differ amps that say 1000rms at 12 volts at 1 ohm, 1300rms at 14.4 at 1 ohm ect. These are random numbers but u get the point. How do you run your car at a different voltage? Only 2 things I could think of was either a new alternator that runs at a higher voltage or it goes up as you add batteries. Can someone finally clear this up? Thanks.

you either change your cars entire electrical system to accept the new voltage, or you have a stnad alone system that is not connected to your cars electronics to run at a different voltage.

12v is the resting voltage of a cars battery, 14.4v is the average charging voltage of a cars electrical system.

most of the time they add a 2nd alternator that outputs a higher voltage and keep it seperate from the cars electronics.

Just because its rated at different voltages doesn't mean they won't work hooked up to a 12v system. It simply means if you want to get the rated power out of the 14.4v rated amp, then you need to have a strong electrical system to keep the voltage up.
