How to do active setup with pioneer deh-p6900?

Trying to help my friend do an active setup. right now he has the pioneer deh-p6900 and we're wondering how to hook up the pre out to the amp. like should the front preout be for mid woofer and tweeters to rear preouts and sub to a sub preout? Is there an active option? i know there are highpass and low pass xover option.

Looks like the deck doesn't have options for active, would buying an external crossover work?
